What's the proper way to fasten my anchor line to the bow? I see two cleats, an extra snap shackle lying unused ahead of the forestay turnbuckle, and of course I have the bow eye. An anchor at rode can put alot of strain on a fitting,I want to be sure I'm connecting to the proper fitting(s) in the proper way.

Same here. One docking cleat is good for an anchor in calm waters.

I use the docking cleats on the bow.
Me too. If the cleats can survive the gales that hit my unprotected marina, I think that they will survive anchoring. Also, an anchor line is generally pulling in the cleat's strongest direction. I don't think that there is a stronger place on the bow to attach it

Disclaimer: There are no really good anchorages on the lake where I sail - so I have only done it for practice. Last Saturday a west wind exploded on me - if it had not eased up by the time I got near the marina - anchoring was going to be the "plan B" if docking looked dicey. At least I have practiced anchoring as an option for exactly this problem, a wicked down slope west wind that explodes...

I like to think the anchor, rode and cleat would have held...

Curious - what do you do to use both cleats? A second line with a rolling hitch or similar? Or, did you rig an eye with two lines to the cleats?

On the old style boat I wrapped the rode around the winch then cleated it off... Used a anchor process a friend started, deploying the anchor from the cockpit. The old style boat not having a anchor locker I used one of those Tupperware containers one put cloths in to store under a bed. This let me stow wet anchor rodes without getting anything wet. One only has to run the anchor rode before sailing off.

On the MK, I too use the forward mooring cleats, that is only one of them. I been in some pretty strong winds while anchored... Never have had a problem staying put.

Well, I've never had to use both because we rarely anchor in much of any waves. But one could easily tie a second line to the anchor rode to take some of the stress off one cleat or in some instances a second anchor and rode may be needed to hold a boat. It depends upon wind/waves and bottom conditions including type of anchor.
