House and Start batteries are separated, linked via a WestMarine combiner, alternator output led to House. Shopping for a new dockside charger... any advantages to 2-bank charger as opposed to 1-bank led to House battery?
Hi Henry - Battery Chargers need to at least have an amp output equal to 10% of the amp/hr capacity of the house band and up to 25%. A 2 bank charger will allow you to keep the start battery topped off. An alternative arrangement is to just charge the house bank and use a Xantrex Echo Charge or Balmar Duocharge unit to charge keep the start battery topped off. I would recomend a smart charger with 3 stage charging. Hope this helps, Trevor
