I have been trying to figure out the major differences between the MK II 30 and the bahama 30. The grid on the documentation link hshows a parallel in yeras but most Mark II are seem to be 80-85 so I assume the MK II was produced a bit later (maybe as the next 30 release)? Horsepower seemed to increase on the MK (and displacement just a little) but I can't seem to find any real major differences. Any others investigated this? Dave

Just as a follow-up - the documentation grid I referred to is at: http://www.islandersailboats.com/

Bahama 30

The bahama has the modern layout unlike the traditional islander designs. I just completed a 5 month cruise on my Islander Bahama 30 on the California coast and it was perfect. There is the original IB30 brochure in my cruising story at: http://inetd.com/Boat/SanDiego05/ Joe.

B 30 vs MK II 30

Thanks for the link Joe, great quality B 30 brochure. The Islander MK II 30 I saw yesterday has essentially the exact same layout as the Bahama - by chance one of the mechanics at the marina I talked to sailed the B 30 for years and he thought the main difference was the extra amount of wood and trim below in the MK II.

California cruising

Hello Pete, On the way down south in the spring the prevailing NW blew 25 knots every afternoon, but I was going with it and its not a problem. I had 35kn gusts around point Conception, but that is normal there. I had till wait till 2am when the wind dropped before I could get around it going North earlier this month. Use buoyweather.com, I found it very accurate. I just added tons more content to the site about my cruise if your interested. http://inetd.com/Boat/SanDiego05 Joe.

Islander 30 trim

I have see quite a number of Islander Bahama 30's over the last year and the level of trim can change dramatically. I saw one in LA that was fully lined with teak, no vinyl at all. It was the same boat as mine but finished beautifully. You could probably order a wide range of finishes from the factory since they were nearly all custom made. Joe.

B 30 and M II

Dave, there are differences in the interior and the Bahama is lighter, has a taller mast, and about 5 square feet more sail area. Check out Islandersailboats.com. The B 30 and MII were both built during the same time.
