The Raymarine rudder sensor was originally installed in a odd way. The sensor arm was attached to a fitting installed on the rudder cable below the helm. It never allowed the wheel to fully rotate and eventually broke off its fitting. I don"t think the original mounting of the rudder sensor was done in a way that would last. We have had a couple of "marine electronics" techs look at it and to date know one has come up with a good solution.
Tough to imagine the space or location without seeing it. Can you send us a pic of the area?
On my B381 I had to construct a 'shelf' to mount the rudder sensor so it connected directly to the quadrant. I made the shelf out or teak and fiberglass.
