Autohelm 4000 on H30
My 1989 H30G is a basically similar model to your 1991. My Autohelm 4000 is mounted on the cockpit coaming on the starboard side, just in front of the starboard cockpit locker. The power/signal connector is inside the locker, where it is protected. The power leads come from the Instruments switch on the DC panel, and the control cable goes to the Autohelm motor on the pedestal through the conduit tube that carries the throttle and transmission cables. The Autohelm is the older model with the flux gate compass inside the control box, and this works well, with excellent steering both on the wind and off. BTW, I recently discovered that the fuel gauge mounted in the top of the fuel tank uses a powerful magnet to couple the position of the internal float to the indicator needle, so I would recomment keeping any type of compass as far from the top center of the fuel tank as possible. The internal magnet rotates as the fuel level changes, so there is no way to compensate a compass for its effects.Hope this helps.
