Hi All,

Recently started sailing a Catalina 30 sailboat with an atomic 4 gas engine. Having a blast with the sailing but many problems with the engine. Twice now after sailing the engine has failed to start after getting into dock looked into engine and found that sea water had got into the engine block (happened twice) also noticed that the gas had somehow been penetrated with sea water !!
the last repair cost a ton of money and involved new re built carb and new head gasket. Mechanic seems to think water is coming back down through the exhaust during rough weather seas anyone have a solution ? The gas tank penetration is a whole other issue I believe !!
Desperate to sail any ideas ???????

Thanks

I have a 1967 Cal 30, freshwater only though...

but I have noticed that if we have several folks in the cockpit that the exhaust looks as if it's almost under water....has not been an issue but I'm keeping an eye on it.

Have you tried posting at the http://www.moyermarine.com/forums/index.php website? I've found some really good info there.

I just bought our Cal 3 months ago so I'm learning tons of stuff, I'm not a mechanic and not even overly handy.

I will ask the guy that does some work at our club on A4s if he has any ideas or tips though. Sorry I cant be of more help.
