Here's an older pic of "250K", our Asaila 27 trailerable motor sailer. The boat was built in 1989 by the designers, Chris Atkinson of Sydney BC and Karl Hansen of Pender Island, BC. Only 3 were built and we've owned and enjoyed ours now for the past eight years and look forward to more adventures with this very versatile and comfortable boat in a few more years when we'll trailer her south to the Sea of Cortez. Of particular interest perhaps to some Hunter owners will be the mast which is a fully braced "A" frame type (sometimes refered to as a "tabernacle rig")and is very easy to fold down for trailer transport. The vessel's 1000lb keel can be raised fully iside the keel trunk by using hydraulics and the rudder can be dismounted from the pintles very quickly. The new 50 hp four stroke Yamaha High Thrust o/b motor (not shown in the picture, that one's the old 45hp Evinrude) can be raised by winch on the transom bracket for trailer loading. We have a Yamaha T-50 mainly for overcoming the high currents in the Fraser River on our way back home to Ladner, BC. The boat's displacement is around 4500lbs and motoring speeds of 12 knots can be reached on the water, 60mph on the trailer. She can sleep 6 adults in bunks, has a full galley, an enclosed head, a holding tank, she carries 150 lt of fresh water and enough fuel tankage for 300 miles at present. This boat is not for sale at this time but her sistership, hull #2, the "Adventurer" is presently under brokerage at Thunderbird Yacht Sales in West Vancouver, BC Canada. Our future plans for our Asaila 27 include a fully enclosed dodger and awning in Sunbrella, a 3 metre kayak rack above the cockpit, fuel tanks for an extra 100 miles of cruising range, a mountain bike rack astern of the awning and watertight PVC tubes set in the foredeck for storing diving tanks. Next winter, we'll add a new profile to the stern to reduce drag in the water for greater fuel and sailing efficiencies. The new stern profile will include moulded in steps to ease in boarding the dinghy via the door in the transom, extra bouyancy in the stern should also result from this addition. We'll need a new stove too, we've worn the old 4 burner/oven unit out now.
