Being one of those who live in cold climate (Canada), I have to make sure nothing freezes during the winter. It is recommended to add non toxic anti freeze to the water tank and automotive anti freeze to the head and septic tank. Why is that, why can't I use non toxic antifreeze for the head as well. Thank's Yves

forget it!

I put the non toxic in the head and holding tank last winter. I too live in Canada and we get some pretty cold spells here. I shovel a lot of snow off. I never had any freezing problems. I don't see what the difference might be except the non-toxic stuff may be more expensive. Eric Linklater "Worlds Away"

don't let your anti freeze

West markets 2 types of marine anti freeze, -50 deg and -100 deg. The -100 is more expensive, of course, but what cost for peace of mind?

Do NOT use automotive antifreeze in the head!!!

Don't use it anywhere but in the engine! Ethylene glycol (automotive) will degrade the hoses, and the seals and valves in your head. Use the non-toxic marine/rv anti-freeze in ALL your plumbing. I posted an article in the Head Mistress forum last year on winterizing the plumbing...it should tell you everything you need to know. And I'll be glad to answer any it doesn't.
