Depends on what you want to do. Sidney Spit is one nice place in good weather. Harbors abound: South Pender's Bedwell, Montague, Saltspring has Fulford (laid back and small) or Ganges. Off Satellite Channel is Genoa Bay, further up through Sansum Narrows is Maple Bay. Buchart Gardens is close by.

Really, get Wagonner's or a Cruising Guide, there are hundreds of great little spots all over.

I've been in most of these places on my father-in-law's old motorboat, and I don't even live there!

Enjoy - the planning and the trip.

Like Stu says, Montague, Pender, etc... all great. Last I heard, the marina/dock at Fulford was wiped out last winter. Maybe it's back, but check. Are you taking kids with you? Ganges is nice. North Pender (Port Browning) is quieter and has more space, but the marina is not that great. But it is only a short walk to the market, good bakery, and nice restaurant. Bedwell has a realyl nice marina and a resort with a great pool.

If you're up for dropping over the border and hitting the San Juans, Stewart Island is super (be sure to walk to lighthouse), and Garrison Bay and Wescott Bay near Roche Harbor are nice (but can be crowded in summer). Roche Harbor is really nice with huge boats and all, but you can also take the bus and explore the island from there.

Also, if you are going to cross the border, it might be quicker just to head to the south end of San Juan or even to Lopez. I like Lopez a lot. Feel free to email if you have questions.

Last time yp there we stopped at Poets Cove on the Canadian side. Little upstart marina/resort NE of Victoria. Lovely.
Enjoy. Great crabbing. Bob

One more thing. Theres a book, "Gunkholing in the San Juans" and I think they have one for the BC islands too. Great book, great info.

Buying the Waggoner's Cruising Guide is a great suggestion. While you are at it get a Current Atlas http://www.armchairsailorseattle.com/cuatstofjude.html (this is only one source of many) if you want to avoid some uncomfortable moments in narrow passes. The universe expands to infinite pleasure if you are comfortable with anchoring out. Our personal favorite is Genoa Bay/Sansum Narrows.
