It seems we get asked fairly regularly if it's reasonable to want to take an S2 offshore. I was reading yesterday about a rescue during this year's Bermuda One-Two yacht race (they start in Rhode Island, sail single-handed to Bermuda, then sail back with one crew added) and was startled to read that the author, in his Halberg-Rassy 49, was thundering along, hot on the wake of an S2 9.1! The article was mostly about his having to rescue someone else who abandoned ship in the difficult conditions (not the S2), but I checked the race results and sure, enough, the 9.1 made the whole trip safely. Of course, these were designed for offshore MORC racing, but STILL, very impressive!

Here's the rescue story, which gives you some idea of the conditions that little 30 footer was facing:

Sure hope the owner of "Bent" is on this forum and can give us some details of his experience.
