Aluminum stains on fiberglass hull

I covered my 260 with a blue poly tarp for the winter, which worked well except for one problem. The aluminum grommets in two places rubbed against the hull, leaving aluminum stains. There are no scratches perceptible when you run your hand across the surface, just unsightly gray marks. How do I remove aluminum from fiberglass? Any recommendations? Thanks much-- Greg

Rubbing compound...

...should do it. Just remember to re-wax afterwards. Mark Kissel Kittiwake/98H240

Many fiberglass cleaners....

I've found that Meguiars(?) One-Step #50 (I think) is very good ad getting the metal rubbing marks off. Also the 3M single step cleaning products seem to work well. Derek

Gotta interject this

I recently wathced a demonstration of the Island Girl cleaners et al, and they are unbelievable. Forget the fact that we're selling them for a moment... they are really worth a try because they work so well. The guy who invented the products is your classic mad scientist, and it shows in the result. steve Dion has used them before and I believe others here have too. This really isn't meant to be promotional, honest! It's just a tip on good product! :)
