I have a B38M-1991 vintage type with no fuel gauge- I am the kind of guy that would rather look at a gauge than mess around with a stick. Is this a difficult task? thanks

Most of us have determined that fuel consumption is among the most useful bits of information. I suggest you do a search (upper right tabs) on "fuel gauge" since this is a recurring subject and comes up about once a week. Good luck.

I have a 7 year old 423 with a fuel gauge. However I don't rely on it since they gauge doesn't show consumption on a linear basis. I prefer to use the hour meter to measure consumption - far more accurate.

I also go by hours but recently installed a fuel flow meter. Bit expensive and possibly extravagant, especially for a diesel since it requires two flow sensors. However by the time you figure in the effort to install a fuel gauge it might make sense. Also if you have added a modern Chart plotter with NMEA 2000 a flow sensor can be connected and viewed on it. You may even be able to get MPG. Just a thought.
