I have been Looking to buy a sailboat in Costa Rica, Pacific Coast, I have found nothing, but i have Seen a 35ft Ericson in Acapulco, Mexico, which Looks Great, i have The navionics Chart Software on my IPad, it Shows no marinas for a long way down that coast, I have two questions.

1) how complicated is it to buy a boat in Mexico and keep it in Costa Rica, rules and regs etc? Am I still better off looking for a boat down there?

2) does anybody have tips on places to go to on the way down through Mexico?

I live in Switzerland and do not want to have to go backwards and forwards to find a boat  my wife is from Costa Rica so immigration is not the problem

Neo,

It's easy to purchase a boat in Mexico. You might try Ray Watson at Mazatlan Yachts, (www.mazmarine.com) in Mazatlan. Tell him I said "Hello" if you talk to him. They always seem to have a number of good boats that are almost ready to go.

I have to say, IF you do decide to purchase in Mexico, GO INTO and cruise the Sea of Cortez before you head south!!!! It's one of the BEST places to cruise in the world! See our web site S/V Guenever for much more info.

Sorry I can't help with points further south, the Sea was just to good. :)

Neo,

Glad to help!

When we were in the Sea of Cortez, we talked to many boats that have gone all the around. And without exception, all said the Sea of Cortes was the BEST cruising. Close anchorages, good weather most of the time, remote anchorages with good towns and hurricane holes within a day or twos travel.
