I want to convert to a 3 blade prop on my 80 H37C. It has a Yanmar 3QM30. Has anyone had experience, good or bad, and what size and pitch prop did you use.Regards,Jerrys/v Makai
I put on a 3 blad Campbell Sailor this year. I gained a knot it all rpm ranges and it appears to have the same drag. It does still back to the left quite a bit. I'll look for the info on the boat this weekend.
I will have to dig up the spec's, but I have a 3 blade attached to the new Perkins 32hp. The only comments I have are it is a little fast at idle. I am always dropping into neutral in the harbor to slow it down. But the Perkins has a huge amount of torque so I can maintain 4 knts at 1000 rpm which make the engine very economical. Reverse is always a little tricky but once used to the "prop walk" its ok.
Our 85 37c has a yanmar 4jhe 44hp which is matched to a 17" max prop 3 blade with a 16 degrees of pitch. Six knot cruise at 2600 rpm. Plenty of backing power once you get use to prop walk.
the proper 3 blade is a 16rh14 for a 1" standard taper shaft. You can order one from Defender industries for about $350.00 That is a Michigan Wheel Sailor prop
