I have an h30 with a 2gm20. The engine runs fine but I have a constant leak from the transmission. I believe it is coming from where the linkage enters the transmission housing. It doesn't seem to matter whether the engine is running or not. I keep a small cup under the linkage and get about 1/4 cup over 3-4 days. Hawaii Dan

Reversing gear leak

There are four bolts that hold the shift plate in place. See that they are tight. The shaft exits through a seal that could be bad. Excessive oil in the case would exacerbate the problem and would be about the only reason for a leak when not running. The oil level should be at, or slightly below, the mark on the dipstick when the threads are NOT engaged. The gasket that used to be used when installing the shifter plate has been eliminated in favor of silicone. It is possible that there is a gasket in yours that has failed. Get a little closer to where the leak starts. Cleaning well, good light, mirrors and sometimes talcum powder will pinpoint an oil leak. I would be happy to stop by and check it out, along about January. If you need me, send tickets.

which shaft?

Still leaking. I usually check the reversing gear oil level prior to getting underway. There is always some oil under the engine. The fluid level does not reach the mark on the dip stick. Unless I refill it about 1/4 cup. It drips even when the engine is not running or in gear. I think although I'm not certin it is coming from where the linkage shaft enters the housing(right side). My Yanmar shop manual shows a seal in there some place. If that is the problem how big a job is that. I like to do my own work but have not done anything like this before. Does the engine need to come out? Tired of an oily smelling boat in Hawaii Dan
