I have not hit on the right search string to produce any past discussions on this. I bought a French made boat from Moorings/Sunsail. It is back in the US and I want to repower from 220 to 110.

The only affected appliance is the Hot Water Heater and it is no issue as the outlet is fully exposed.

I am only talking about changing out maybe 7 or 8 electrical outlets.

Bringing 110 aboard and to the breaker panel I can do.....Has anybody changed out the French single outlets?

I have not tried to remove one yet and I would appreciate any knowledge someone might have on the subject.

Thanks in advance!

to repower would suggest you are changing out the engine....
to convert from 220AC to 110AC should be just a matter of changing out all the inlets and outlets in the current system...
I would imagine the french outlets are held in with screws like any other. I am not sure as to the size of them compared to an american standard 110v outlet, but you may need to make adapter plates or cut the holes bigger...

one thing that may be an issue is 220v typically has a bit smaller wire... so check and make sure the wire size is big enough for the amperage of the 110v circuits...

I had a 36cc (all the cc's were built in France) and had similar challenges. The elements in the water heater were replaced, but failed soon after. Replacing the water heater completely is a good idea. Other than changing the electrical outlets, no other change was really required. HOWEVER, the shorepower wiring will be thinner than what is normally present in an 110v boat so watch your draw on these circuits. You may want to invest in a several 110v voltage meters just to monitor. I found with the TV, water heater, battery charger that any other big draw (microwave, space heater, etc.) would severely bring down the voltage to 100 to even 95v due to the thin wiring. I added an additional shorepower circuit (inlet, panel, outlets) just for space heating and it made a huge difference. Also, the wiring scheme will be different (blue, brown, yellow/green vs. black, red, green). Best of luck on your wiring project!

Yup--you'll need more copper in your wires to handle twice the current.

The project is finished.
I left the 220 side completely intact and added the new breaker panel and outlets. The battery charger was a dual power model so that was an easy fix.
The only thing I removed was the 220 inverter and its associated wiring. I put a 110 inverter in its place and wired it to the new panel.
I am very happy with the way it all turned out. The LED TVs draw very little on the inverter which is nice also.
