    Funny Friday!!!

It doesn't seem like you need one as: a) you found your local chandlery b) you remembered why you went there :)

Keel bolts on 1980's Catalina 25's

I would: chip off the epoxy around the bolts, remove the nuts and washers, and clean-up the bolts and nuts with a wire brush, put some anti-corrosion product on the threads (tef gel, lanacote etc.), re-torque the bolts and then glop on some more epoxy to protect the bolts. If they are mild...

Keel bolts on 1980's Catalina 25's

It looks to me that in the first picture, some of threads have corroded away, no? If that's the case and they are stainless steel, there must've been a lot of stagnant water in the bilge for a period of time. What really matters is how are the threads under the nut and below. Also, is that...

    Funny Friday!!!

An 86-year-old man goes to his doctor for his yearly check-up. The doctor asks him how he's feeling, and the man replies "Things are great and I've never felt better. I now have a 20 year-old bride who is pregnant with my child. So what do you think about that Doc?". The doctor considered his...

Roller Furler Rubbing on Metal Guide - Any ideas?

I agreed with adjusting the fairlead, my point was doing that alone wouldn't solve the rubbing problem

Roller Furler Rubbing on Metal Guide - Any ideas?

Yes, but the OP was complaining about the guard rubbing against the furler drum.

    Bottom Paint Sanding

I'm surprised there are yards that still let you sand the bottom, around here (Massachusetts), very few yards let you paint the bottom yourselves and I don't know of any that would allow you to sand it beyond a light sanding for adhesion.

Roller Furler Rubbing on Metal Guide - Any ideas?

I would try to bend it back a little bit so it doesn't rub - shouldn't be a problem.

    Gauges!

Here is a photo of the new panel that will be going into my boat soon. It is taller and wider than the original so need to cut some fiberlgass :sosad:. Hopefully it will be a little easier to see the gauges since they are sitting lower in the panel than before. The switch is so I can turn off...

    Gauges!

A gas engine tach can run off impulses from the coil whereas diesel has to use the alternator - the coil would be more accurate. The tachs available for boats specificy they are either for gas or diesel.

    soft area starboard fore deck

I agree I wouldn't want to try to replace the core from underneath which would be pretty messy I imagine. However, for small areas where you could "inject" epoxy from above through existing holes, I'd much rather not scar up the deck. I guess it depends on the condition of your deck - mine is in...

Cut off instrument mounts on steering pedestal?

If you decide to cut it, you can always add a nicely formed piece of white starbord trim to hide the cut.

    Gauges!

No reason that I know of but then again, I really don't know, haven't hooked mine up yet. Sounds like a good MaineSail question :)

    soft area starboard fore deck

I think it's wise to attack from underneath if you can to avoid having to refinish the deck. I had some rot around my deck fills that I was able to remove with various tools through the 1 1/2" holes in the deck. You could think about drilling some 1" holes underneath which would allow you to...

    soft area starboard fore deck

O'day did not use foam - most likely it is end-grain balsa, though in some areas they used plywood. Drilling holes and injecting git rot will not fix the problem and just make a mess of your deck. You need to get the moisture out of there before doing anything as git rot or epoxy will not...

    Gauges!

It was about $70 from defender - I wanted to get a Faria to match the others but couldn't find one for diesel so went with a Sea Star: https://www.defender.com/product.jsp?id=1363574

    Gauges!

eherlihy - can you post where you got the LEDs for the gauges? I put together a new panel with Faria gauges (adding a tach and oil pressure) which is waiting to be installed. When I looked for replacement LEDs, the ones I found seemed to be too bright. Thanks.
