    New Start Battery?

you should clarify what you plan on doing with it, cruising or day trips, etc also if you are normally at slip or mooring. do you have an AC charger?

    New Start Battery?

ouch, 85 lbs for the T1275. be sure the height fits where you are putting them. if your start battery is going to be connected through an ACR be sure it's flooded as well. I would just get a group 24 or 27 deep cycle so it can be used as backup to the T 1275 monster.

Agreed, but mine is not glass.

    Head mirror replacement project

A glass mirror probably shouldn't be on a boat unless pocket sized used to signal for rescue

Sea Tow to discontinue Automated Radio Check Service

dsc test is good to but not exactly the same as hearing your own voice back to you. also it's a little harder to tell all the guys who want to check their radios to use a DSC test as opposed to say just call on channel 24, 27 or 28

Sea Tow to discontinue Automated Radio Check Service

Hopefully someone else will pick up the service. Does anyone know why this was discontinued?

Sea Tow to discontinue Automated Radio Check Service

I was very disappointed to hear. I too used this service to troubleshoot or check my radios. It's the only service in which you can hear what you sound like. It must have been too expensive of an idea (or too good of an idea) to maintain. Now, all we are going to hear is "can I get a radio...

New Victron Smart Shunt vs. New Balmar SG2000

Sounds good. Also, the victron has a bluetooth app that works ok as well. Helps in setting it up instead of scrolling through menus on the small display.

New Victron Smart Shunt vs. New Balmar SG2000

I have the victron for many years and most of the years for my previous set of Flooded Acid batteries which I got 8 full years out of. As a rule of thumb (not sure if Mainsail or Victron told me this) you just need to reduce the setting of the capacity of the bank by a certain % each year if you...

    Thru-hull replacement and hull thickness

I agree with you on this that it probably was put in there for the lawyers. I also have made it a habit to close the sea cocks whenever you leave the boat. I've been using the same 3/4" Sherwood strainer below the waterline that you noted for over 30 years and had recently upgraded to the...

    Thru-hull replacement and hull thickness

BTW, Groco recommends the strainer above the waterline.

Upsizing raw water engine SeaCock, Strainer, White Steam Smoke

I know this is old, but thought I should note: The odd thing is that if I use a 3/4" Groco Strainer such as their ARG-755-S or ARG-750-S there is no Groco full flow 90 degree fitting with 3/4" NPT for 3/4" hoses. Seems odd...

Why You Should Inspect Your Foam Air Filter Element

I inspect mine twice a year; I've always made it a habit after winterizing to remove the air filter assembly and block the intake hole for the winter to keep the salty air out. You can squirt some fogging or WD40 to protect it as well. With this method you can't help but inspect the element...

Flushing of Raw Water Cooled Engine Circuit

Whatfiero1 - do you mean the very small petcock drains on the side of the block? and that the block was 1/3 full of trash?

Flushing of Raw Water Cooled Engine Circuit

Good to know about the water heater connection to look out for. There probably is over 10' of hose (similar to auto heater hose) going to and from the water heater, which I replaced when I pulled the exhaust manifold back in 2014. I also always wondered about any restrictions in the water heater...

Flushing of Raw Water Cooled Engine Circuit

As part of preventive maintenance which was never done before, and the boat has always spent it’s summers in salt water and winters with the engine winterized. I’m planning to flush out my Yanmar 3GMD engine with Rydlyme and had some questions for those who might have done this or something...

Refrigeration - My big off season project

I still have an AB system that is over 30 years old. It works fine but is air cooled with the extra fan but struggles in the best heat of the summer. My next replacement would consider Isotherm SP Self-Pumping refrigeration system using their special thru-hull fitting with a built-in...
