Advice for grinding out and tabbing in a new bulkhead

Looking for some guidance on preparing the inside of the hull for tabbing in a new forward bulkhead. Had a previous post and replies convinced me to replace rather than try to repair. '83 Ericson 30+ with wet-rotted forward bulkhead in an empty space between the v-berth and the anchor chain...

Replacing cabin portlights with exterior plexiglass panels?

    Thanks. Very helpful. Nice boat.

Replacing cabin portlights with exterior plexiglass panels?

Thanks. Will be helpful if I go that route. The difference with what I would have to do compared to the videos is that the panels wouldn't sit within the depression in the outside cabin-wall. In my case, they would sit on top of the fiberglass which would create a different look.

Replacing cabin portlights with exterior plexiglass panels?

I am in the process of refitting my '83 Ericson 30+ because of water damage to the cabin side-walls. I pulled the portlights to be able to repair/replace the wood. One of the portlights is damaged and might need to be replaced with a custom piece (it is a non-standard size). One repair...

    Repairing plywood bulkhead

There is just space from the bulkhead to the bow. There is a decorative piece of painted plywood that screws into the bulkhead from inside the v-berth that defines the forward end of the v-berth and the forward-most part of the boat accessible from the cabin. There is a (detached) second fill...

    Repairing plywood bulkhead

I'm in the process of doing some repairs on my '83 Ericson 30+. There is a small plywood bulkhead that is at the forward end of the V-berth, just under the anchor chain pan. It has extensive water damage with the part of the top cross piece and part of the starboard vertical section rotted...

    Replacing datamarine transducers with Raymarine?

I'm in the process of doing a refit on my '86 Ericson 30+ including updating electronics. I am likely to go with a Raymarine system built around an Axiom 9+ MFD with wireless wind, DST, and connection to my X5 autopilot. Wondering if anyone has experience replacing the Datamarine Depth or Speed...

Interfacing B&G MFD with Raymarine X5 autopilot?

It is definitely NMEA 1083. I currently having it working with a connection from the Raspberry Pi which uses a GPS dongle and a USB-RS422 converter that I connect into the GPS jack for the radio. Radio receives and displays lat/long perfectly. I think that the GPS accessory is a GPS receiver...

Interfacing B&G MFD with Raymarine X5 autopilot?

Pretty sure it is a Cobra F45. Meant to check when I was at the boat earlier.

Interfacing B&G MFD with Raymarine X5 autopilot?

That's my understanding as well. The signal I want to go to the VHF is the GPS lat/long so that the DSC emergency calling works.

Interfacing B&G MFD with Raymarine X5 autopilot?

If I understand the manual correctly, there are 4 connections for the NMEA: 2 wires for in, 2 wires for out. Was thinking the out would go to the VHF and the in would come from the RaspberryPi/SDR for AIS. If I can't get that to work, would figure out a connection from the Pi to the N2K backbone.

    Electronics Upgrade (B&G and Raymarine)

I know this is fairly old post but wondering you you ever got this to work properly. I am in a similar position with the same AP and thinking about Vulcan MFD so that I have the sailing info they provide.

Interfacing B&G MFD with Raymarine X5 autopilot?

All this is very helpful. Seems like it should all be doable. I've found out that the X5 can act as a bridge from ST to NMEA 1083 so that I should be able to feed the VHF from the X5 and feed the X5 from the Vulcan. Here is the schematic of what I am now thinking. Certainly open to further...

Advice on cabin interior wall replacement project

I like the idea of repair with a mending plate rather than replacing all together. The good news is that this particular piece isn't visible. It's behind a decorative piece of wood that defines the bow end of the V berth. Thanks for the suggestion. Will make the project a lot easier if it turns...

Advice on cabin interior wall replacement project

Replacing the vinyl with all of the zippers to deal with wires and deck hardware backing plates seems like an awfully big job. If it was just a matter of stretching the vinyl across the top, I'd replace it. Original plan was to replace with a hard surface like FRP sheets and hold that in place...

Advice on cabin interior wall replacement project

Thanks for the advice. Not sure if a spanked spaniel is a good thing for a boat or not. I am going to try to save the headliner. I've pulled all the staples on that side of the boat. Given how complicated things are already, I'm inclined to hold off on replacing the headliner too. I think the...

Advice on cabin interior wall replacement project

Appreciate the advice thus far. Spent 3 hrs this AM doing demolition. Used an oscillating tool to cut the bow end at the midships bulkhead and pulled off as much as the plywood as I could. Started to remove the interior frames of the windows but they are pretty stuck and I am going to need to...

Interfacing B&G MFD with Raymarine X5 autopilot?

The Raymarine X5 is the computer that controls the AP motor. It has NMEA1803 and Seatalk inputs.
