    New music sysyem

On my 2001 #118 C310 that I bought new, I have 2001 era stereo receiver, a 12 CD changer and 4 hard wired speakers - 2 cabin and 2 under perch seats. The system needs to be replaced. I would prefer to not to replace the speakers. Suggestions? Replace CDs with Pandora or XM with a new...

    310 ignition key switch

Using my best "nautical speak" (the Admiral loves it when I use technical terms like grab that 'thing'), the rubber quarter-sized cover, gasket, thingy that might be designed to keep water out of the switch has deteriorated and fallen off. Anyone know where to get one of these? Maybe replace...

    Confusing electrical problem

This problem raised its ugly head this past weekend - the buzzer on the key switch would not shut off and the tach would not work or would stick at some rpm. I could silence the buzzer by turning the key switch off. No issues with the engine running (gravity feed) and restart was fine so I...

    Documentation Scam is unnecessary

I just received a letter from "U.S. Vessel Documentation" asking me to renew my documentation - I think it is not yet due. They do mention a fee and that they are a private firm and do charge a service fee. Their web address is www.uscgdocumentation.us/. They charge $75. Going directly to...

    Is the topping lift necessary?

I recently deep-sixted my Dutchman system in favor of lazy jacks and a cradle cover (Doyle). The topping lift seems to be somewhat useless unless I want to remove the fixed vang to remove the boom or for some other reason hold the boom up. Has anyone removed the TL or is it not as useless as I...

    Float switch for bilge pump

My Rule Mercury float switch needs to be replaced - the current Rule model 35 A mercury free switch does not fit into the bilge as it is about an inch longer. Anyone solve this problem?

    AGM vs GEL battery replacement

I have two 4-D AGM that are in their 9th sailing season. They seem fine - they are on dock power charging most of the season and are seldom off charge for more than two days at a time. Do you think it would be a good idea to do a preemptive replacement? I have an economic incentive to buy...

    Articles for Catalina Mainsheet Magazne

As the rest of the country enters the dog days of summer, C-310 owners enter the middle of the (northern climes) sailing season. We have either been on cruises, in races or both. As you remember the 2014 sailing season and look forward to the 2015 season, why not take a few minutes and write a...

    Doyle Cradle Cover

I have a love-hate affair with my Dutchman system and as I age gracefully I find myself wanting to avoid the "six minutes of terror" going forward to put sail ties on the main and some times wrestling with the poor flaking of the sail. A lazy jack system with a boom mounted sail cover looks...

    Bent swim ladder

Over the winter and possibly due to the shrink wrapping process, my swim ladder is bent to one side and is close to not being held in place by the starboard 'clip'. Anyone have an idea on how to straighten the ladder?

    AC Outlets don't work

I've been married (to the same Admiral) for 36 years and still don't understand her some of the time so I should not be surprised that after 13 years I Still don't understand the systems on my 310. Last weekend I noticed that the microwave was not working and my diagnostic brain went into...

    310 in Mainsheet

The fall issue of Mainsheet is just out and the (discontinued) 310 is featured in two articles. Bill Lewis (73) sails in the Ensenada Race and Dick Clarke (298) recounts a cruise to Key West. In the tech section there are columns about replacing the cockpit line bags, installing a new wheel...

    Engine temp guage and tach

My engine temperature guage pegs at the high end even when the actual temperature is normal. Also, the engine tach is not working. Both of these events are periodic rather than constant. Loose wires on the engine? Where are they located? Hard to see for an old captain with bad eyes.

    Catalina 315

I noticed that Catalina will be introducing the 315 at the Chicago Strictly Sail show the end of January. Anyone know anything about this boat? Another knock-off of the 310 in the 309 image? Why a 309 and a 315 and a 320 - seems rather crowded.
