    Lost steering on my Mac26x

I replaced the steering system on my 2002 26X two years ago. Not too difficult; took a couple of hours. Avoid sharp bends when running your new steering cable. Sharp bends will make the steering action more difficult. Gentler curves are best.

    Need to know what's necessary

The mods I found most useful have been: - extending the halyards to the cockpit - a steering brake - adding an additional set of guides to the boat trailer - a lazy jack for the main sail - adding a support for the jib sail furler when the boat is on the trailer

Mac 26x Steering Cable in aft bed

I purchased my 26X used also. The cables were suspended from the ceiling over the bed. Eye straps were attached to the ceiling and 1/4" nylon cord was used to attach the cables to the eye straps. Gentle curves were used for the cables path so as not to kink or bind the cables. :)

    Problems with steering

Steering problem Thanks for the part number. Do you know if the helm box will precisly fit the existing mounting holes or if alterations will need to be made. I have never changed a steering cable system. Do you have any advice that would make the job go easier. Thanks.

    Problems with steering

The steering on my 2002 26X is very stiff. When the motor and rudders are detached from the steering cable, they move freely. However the wheel is still very stiff. Any suggestions? Is a new cable needed, and if so how difficult is it to replace? Thanks.

    Steering cable

Has anyone installed one of the steering cable lubrication systems on their boats, and if so how has it worked?
