Hunter 23.5 sheave under mast plate for CB line.

Thank you Dave and Rgranger, Dave, You and I messaged a long time ago when I was new to my boat in 2007 (hull year 1997). You'll be happy to know she's still going strong here on KY Lake. Only real damage was de-masting in 2014. In a race, straight downwind, barn door WIDE OPEN, eclipsing...

    H23.5 Centerboard Bracket Bolt Stuck

Glad you've had a good outcome from your issue. I'm looking into removing the old nylon sheave under my mast plate. it's still functional but,,, I'm noticing issues. Since you've gotten this far with your repair maybe look into upgrading that sheave to a better quality one. Kentucky lake...

    H23.5 Centerboard Bracket Bolt Stuck

sounds like it may have been overtightened and become cross threaded before you got to it; or it's bent below what you can see.

Hunter 23.5 sheave under mast plate for CB line.

some time back there was a thread here about replacing (or attempting to replace) the sheaves under the mast plate for the main & jib halyards and the CB control line. The problem is the shafts are embedded below the mast plate. Did anyone ever figure out how to get these out for replacement.

    Outboard size for 23.5

I'd say that is WAY to big. I doubt the motor head will fit in engine well area. I have a '03 mercury 6 2-stroke. pushes the boat to hull speed 6ish kts. as far as weight goes. These lil hunters have a natural list to port. my motor is 80'ish lbs. house battery is 70 lbs and 3 gal fuel...

Bimini for a 23.5 with stern rail seats

yes on my set up the attachments are stern rail and side of boat. Another 23.5 has both attachments on top of the free board. His is more narrow on the beam and allows water to run into the cockpit when it rains. With mine on the outside of the boat water dosent get in so much. Also his may...

Bimini for a 23.5 with stern rail seats

Sorry I haven't posted the pictures. Last weekend didn't work out as planned. I had to beat a line of storms back to the marina on Sunday after being out all weekend. Here is a pic of my boat the weekend after I bought it in spring of '07. I did look a another 23.5 near mine with a bimini and...

    SS replacement tiller for H26?

When I started sailing my 23.5 in '07 there were 3 others with the same problem in the marina, sloppy tiller handle to rudder attachments. Each owner tried different "fixes" but none were long lasting. Changing out the plastic spacers won't solve the problem. That area takes stress and...

    SS replacement tiller for H26?

Buy a wooden replacement you'll be a lot happier. I went through all the mentioned repairs and my aluminum tiller broke at the bolt location during a race with other boats in close proximity.

Bimini for a 23.5 with stern rail seats

I have what you're looking for on my boat. I'll be on it this wknd. Will send you pics. I have the 6ft bimini. I can sail with it out with only a small amount if lift provided by the topping line for boom clearance. Cant see the sail shape so I sail by feel and watch for the separation bubble...

My rudder problem has just become more complicate

Take the rudder assembly apart. Check the spacer sleeve on the pivot bolt. If damaged (squashed) that may squeeze the head plates too much and cause bind. If it needs to be replaced use pvc pipe. Cut to proper length. Ya might have to drill out the inner dia for the bolt but its a quick...

    Docking

Yup parking a truck. My 23.5 has no starboard turn with the motor. A design flaw. I'm in a tight marina. I have to full throttle backward out of slip to get rudder response. Turn full starboard, then full throttle and full port with motor and rudder to clear dock. Scares **** out of newbies...

The 23.5's maiden voyage: some good, some bad

As a SOF (Safety Officer) at work I would tell management replace it! No more difficult than it is to raise and lower mast and low cost replacement. Not worth risk.

    type of main sail question

Thank for the responses. Iv'e been working with north sails on replacement of my damaged sails. after sending the measurements of the main I was told they were off. Checked the measurement between marks on the mast and found out the main I was using was smaller than the design called for...

    type of main sail question

Yup "flyin with the barn door wide open" was one of the best descriptions I heard. 8.9 kts and accelerating was on the GPS a few seconds before failure. Thirteen boats went out that morning only 6 finished race. A Flyin Scott and a Mengles (sp?) finished and both flew spinakers! ...

    type of main sail question

My wife and I managed to blow our mast during a race last fall on our H23-5. A 42 kt gust got us on a down wind run. We're getting things back together this winter. I need to replace the main sail. Does anyone here use a loose foot main? Several of the boats I sail with have them and l'm...

    Battery Advice

If you have or had a h23-5 id like pics or info on how you attached the auto helm. I got ahold of an old one that had blown out and toyed with how to mount it if i decided to buy a new one. Seemed like it was going to take a lot of hardware. Also I managed to break the original aluminum tiller...
