    Outboard issues

I have a BF 75 Honda engine 7.5 horsepower. I had an engine problem it was not the spark. The problem was fuel delivery. When I cleaned the carburetor it still didn't work. I had to clean the carburetor and run a tiny wire through every channel. I found a bug wing that would fold down and...

    Companionway Hatch Storage

I like this answer. I think this will be a great addition to the boat. However, I would still need to store the pieces. I could put a box in the deck hatch and the boat would look better. Still looking for hatch storage for the hatch I have now. I would like the quick easy fix for the...

    Companionway Hatch Storage

Is there a good place to store the companionway hatch on a 1981 MacGregor 25. I usually put the hatch at the back of the main cabin and put an ice chest in front of it while sailing. While sleeping or in heavy/wavy water the hatch is in place. Does anyone know if there is a good place to...

    I left the lights on

I replaced the battery today and it cost $30. I purchased the battery in 2019. It still had a warranty. The people a the store were very nice. They were amazed that a marine battery was covered by the warranty. If I knew that it still had a warranty and would only cost $30 to replace I...

    I left the lights on

Simple setup. I just need to remember to turn off the lights and not kill another battery. Just good enough to sail. Just good enough to camp. Great for fishing. I like waking up in the morning and just need to start fishing. Aqualand Marina on Lake Lanier Georgia. I will be in Sarasota FL...

    I left the lights on

This is the McGregor 25. I powered the boat lights bilge pump fans and interior LED lights. I also use an inverter to run computers and charge the phone. There's also a small nav unit that is a fish finder. I have a 55 lb electric trolling motor for quiet evenings or emergencies. When I...

    I left the lights on

I guess the only answer is lifting at really heavy battery out of the bottom of the boat and taking it to a shop to have a tested. If it was not so heavy I would just get another battery and carry both on board. I have no use for a battery at home.

    I left the lights on

It was the biggest Everstart deep cycle battery from Walmart. EverStart marine battery group size 27dc. It is one year old. all of the onboard lights are LED lights. The lights were left on for a week. The lowest charge it ever showed before this was 12.4 volts. I ran an electric motor...

    I left the lights on

I left the lights on on the boat. When I return to the boat the battery read 7.1 volts. I turned off the electricity and left the solar charger hooked up. The battery is red 11.4 volts when I left the boat that afternoon. I am hoping that the battery will fully charge and last for a while...

    New outboard?

I have a 1981 Honda 7.5 HP. Great engine, however if any port has blockage it will start and die. Start run for a while and die. Not start. Ethanol murders the carb. I just had a war with the carb. The port from air intake to idler screw was clean but had a small bug wing in it. I cleaned...

    Mast Support

Aqualand Marina does not allow cooking on the dock or in the slip.

    Mast Support

The wood I used on the mast support was an old 2 x 4. It was 1.75" x 4". I grew up in California and tore down houses and barns with my father. I no longer have any of the real old wood. It kept shrinking as we built houses. This piece must have come from an old building. The last mast...

    Mast Support

I just put the boat in Aqualand Marina today. Does anyone know the size pin is used on adjustment verniers on the shrouds? I am guessing Clevis Pins, 1/4 x 3/4 Just a guess.

    Mast Support

Ok. Here is the problem. The boat was built in 1981. Now with the support in place the Shrouds(side stays) are too tight. The backstay is too loose and the forstay if very tight. I think I need to loosen the shrouds to allow the mast to lean forward. I will be reading everything I can find. I...

    Mast Support

I grew up on a ranch. We grew our own firewood. We built houses. When tools needed repair I went to welding school. When the tractor broke down I took autoshop and got a job as a mechanic. Then I turned 19. Now I teach engineering, great lab at work. Almost as good as the one at home. I...

    Mast Support

Ok. I think that I will buy a black locust plant. Grow it for 4 years. Harvest a section without knots. Dry it for 18 months and replace the mast support. The pine might be attacked by that point in history and need to be replaced. I did not know that the black locust would grow in my...

    Mast Support

I agree. At the end of the season I think I will be replacing a few items. But this is the start of my sailing season. I think I will do fine in coastal sailing in the Gulf of Mexico this spring and summer. Repair and replace items next winter. I also need to find good marine plywood...

    Mast Support

I replaced it with a knot free 2 x 4. I was able to match the curves in the fiberglass and make it fit close to perfect. I think it is much stronger than the old support. Time to recover the cushions and inspect the rest of the wood items on the boat.
