    autohelm st4000 problems

Did that and found a perfectly good 3 blade fixed prop! Sold it to someone here on the forum and pocketed a nice piece of free change. Also found a batten tool. Most likely the fluxgate compass for a ST4000 looks like a fat hockey puck (black). You should take a little time and open every...

    Electric harbors are coming.

I was referring to "currently made and marketed" rather than to the ones for WWI and WWII but I guess I wasn't clear on that point and when I wrote "made" I should have used "being made." If I recall correctly as of a few years ago I believe Germany was making a small "coastal defense" marketed...

    Electric harbors are coming.

Will - not quite accurate. Modern, long range submarines are nuclear powered with steam turbines providing the propulsion. They have a large battery bank to power emergency propulsion and essential electrical loads but it can only go a very short time if called upon for propulsion in an...

Help! My dog won't do her duty while on board. Need suggestions please.

Try taking the mat to an area where other dogs can do their business on the mat like a dog park or in your front yard if other people walk their dog in the area. Dogs want to "mark" and maybe if they mark it she will later want to mark it as her own. You can also follow her around and when she...

CNG tank fill or exchange... PNW... Anacortes, Port Townsend???

MDBack - thanks for the info. I've found a source for 98% pure methane from an industrial gas supplier. Its a little pricey, but still much less than converting to propane and I still like the idea of the CNG being lighter than air. I also have an fill adapter but I like the idea of the two...

CNG tank fill or exchange... PNW... Anacortes, Port Townsend???

Is there an attendant there at the car station and if so does he/she give you a hard time or a "what the heck are you doing" question or look? Does he/she ask to see if the tank has been tested within the last 5 years or any kind of certification? Just asking since these are all reasonable...

    Wing on Wing or Reach?

Dumb question from me? In Jackdaw's example, if you are doing within 1 knot of your hull speed DDW despite being in air disturbed by the other boats, what is the gain from going to a reach at 25 degrees off the course mark? If you are going within 1 knot of "as fast as you can go" (I realize...

Risky venture - Bridges and Hunter 41 down the ICW ?

Pretty impressive old salt there! We couldn't get nearly that much of an angle but we got some and that was enough. He subsequently has had a couple feet chopped off his mast and the sails recut because he is paranoid after that trip.

Risky venture - Bridges and Hunter 41 down the ICW ?

The Wilkerson Bridge that uncledom shows the picture of can be problematic if the wind has been coming from the south for a long time. There is very little tide there and the wind can back up the water into the Alligator River. Check the water depth on the route around Roanoke Island for any...

Big OOPS! Now a new pulpit

Call the store here on the forum and ask for Al Fooks! Al was able to locate or has access to the jigs for the original bow pulpit railing for my Hunter 40.5 and have it manufactured for me at about 1/2 the estimate for a "custom made" pulpit (including the shipping cost from Hunterowners.com...

What would happen to sailing if...

One thing it will do is make composition of the written documents difficult and read more like a "legal mumbo-jumbo". For instance, they is plural so when he or she should be used in the singular, then it will have to be some other word other than he/she because that still implies gender. What...

Isotherm ITC Digital Display Intelligent Temperature Control

Yes, 10 g for the whole fridge and controller, but it is a new ISOTHERM unit and draws very little current compared to my old unit which was run with the same 10 G wire. The wire run is not very long (about 5 feet one way) and the system seems to work as designed, including going into the...

Isotherm ITC Digital Display Intelligent Temperature Control

Jackdaw, When you say "This is the same unit I have" do you mean the digital version that was shown by the original poster (the ITC) or do you have the ISEC version with the rotary switch (with the numbers and an arrow on it)? It is the ISEC version with the rotary dial (simple non digital...

Isotherm ITC Digital Display Intelligent Temperature Control

Jackdaw - that is the same manual I have. I had to set my dip switch for the refrigerator to have an offset based on the measured temperature after it had been stabilized. With the standard setting the measured temperature was a few degrees above 33 degrees F in the overcool mode so I set the...

Isotherm ITC Digital Display Intelligent Temperature Control

Mine is the single rotary dial (non led/digital gauge) with an arrow for automatic overcool mode. Seems to work fine. You do have to set the dip switches correctly, including any "offset" to get it to overcool to the 33 degree measured temperature. Its a little bit of a "trial and error" process.

CNG tank fill or exchange... PNW... Anacortes, Port Townsend???

Good questions and I appreciate the input from your "bloke" in the UK. I am the original poster and I am not suggesting that we try to get the tanks "refilled" by anyone, hence no need to get the tanks re-certified or tested by a dive shop. That is because the methane tanks I am referring to...

CNG tank fill or exchange... PNW... Anacortes, Port Townsend???

May be the case but that alone wouldn't keep someone from using except you wouldn't be able to tell when you had a leak. Still a good point though. I'll have to inquire with the industrial gas suppliers if there is a "odorant" added to the methane they provide. They can provide everything...

CNG tank fill or exchange... PNW... Anacortes, Port Townsend???

Look closely at about 4:45 and you'll see those are two portable Propane Cylinder's like you can buy at Home Depot. All the more reason, even if you do have all the safety shut off valves and safety gear for you Propane stove from you sealed propane lockers, don't carry portable propane...

CNG tank fill or exchange... PNW... Anacortes, Port Townsend???

From what I can glean from open source materials Methane is the main, if not sole active component of Natural Gas. Its a bit difficult to get a clear answer of compressed Methane can be used in what we commonly call Natural Gas appliances like a marine stove/oven. Methane can come from a lot...
