    Rookies first outing, hunter 260

We are in the yard, saw you on the boat yesterday but by the time we walked over you were inside and I didn't want to bother you. We will be trying to figure some things out on the trailer today. If the nerve makes an appearance we may put it in the water but will likely wait for an end of...

    The 260 is home!

We paid 27500 CAD for our boat. I consider it a reasonable price. The previous owner has kept thorough records. I see what he paid for it in 2007, Crazy Dave's invoice. Also included in his paperwork is a quote from 1999 when the PO priced out a 260 new. Trailer updated with electric disk...

    The 260 is home!

We will organize and polish it in the driveway before bringing it down to the marina, drydocked while awaiting a slip.

The boat arrives Sunday/Monday and I hope to bring it to the club early next week. We will use the trailer to launch, we have a Hunter 260. Any and all help is welcome!

    Rookies first outing, hunter 260

We are the newest members of the BYC! We hope to have the boat in the yard next week, awaiting a slip next season if lady lucks smiles on us, if not we will launch from the trailer. Still weighing the --- trial by fire/find a sailor at the BYC to help/advantage boat club --- options. Will let...

Yes that seems to be what we will do. Motor out of the NSC and putt putt around. If things seem good we will put up a bit of sail. I promise to be very careful!

I have the app and do know how to use charts. I have some experience with motoring and lived on the rideau for years, boating daily.

Thanks, maybe the Ottawa river it will be. Possibly including Advantage, will look into it if I don't hear from a volunteer. ;) At least this option is just 20 minutes from home. Am I crazy to think that I could launch the boat at NSC, start the 9.9 and motor around for an hour or 2 at a few...

Trying to get that sorted out. I do believe I will find someone locally that is willing to help us out. Thanks for the advice.

I think I've been pretty clear on what I do and don't know. Do I have the basic minimum legal requirement to operate a small craft in my local, yes. That's about it. Jon, I do hope my wanting to learn how to sail hasn't upset you. I'm certainly not the first person to teach themselves how to...

I've put up a post in hunter section to see if anyone locally is looking for a few miserable hours teaching a couple rookies. We shall see how that goes.

Ottawa area sailor feel like offering a lesson

I posted for some input on our first outing here: Rookies first outing, hunter 260 Might as well ask, is anyone in the Ottawa area looking for a few hours of sailing with 2 rookies? Hunter 260 experience would be great! We only know enough to know we don't know enough. Thanks in advance.

There seem to be plenty of "Learn to Sail" videos on youtube, presented by people with decades of experience. I have to assume they are presented to show people how to get on the water with only the video and a boat under their belt.

Thanks for the replies. Maybe somewhere between Belleville and Kingston. The boat does have a very good running outboard which I think can get us out of trouble in a pinch if we stay within a click or 2 of shore. The Ottawa river on the west side of the city has a set of rapid just past the 2...
