    Winterizing 272le

Here are some tips (but I don’t what systems your 27LE has)… several different systems to consider… 1) water heater / engine circuit…engine anti-freeze circulated through engine and the hoses take the hot AF to the heat exchanger in the water-heater…this gives you hot water when motoring…no...

Ignorant solar panel and battery questions

I used to use 2 group 27 deep cycle batteries, and I would isolate one of the batteries during overnight stays so I always had juice to start the engine. This year, I upgraded to 2) 215 ah 6-volt GC batteries in series. I don’t yet have an engine start battery set up, but I did install one...

    Repairing an HS35 handset

Thanks for sharing that info. i have the B&G equivalent. So far, no charging issues, but at times the handset seems to not change channels correctly. I was hailing a Laker ore boat on Lake Michigan the other day, and the skipper asked to go to channel 8…could not get my handset to change...

    H280 Rudder Depth?

How much depth do you have where the rudder will be? The deep draft keel has a rudder slightly shorter than the keel. But not by much. If you have 6 feet of water there, probably ok. If you have 5 feet, you will be close…and any less than 5 feet depth is not going to work. Greg

Can't find the intake water strainer

There must be a lot of rubber bits in your cooling system looking at that old impeller… make sure you check the hose and HX if you don’t know where all of the pieces are, or if you aren’t getting good flow out the exhaust. Is that a 2GM20F or similar? The backwards water pump is the same as...

    False fume alarm ?

propylene glycol The primary components are either ethanol or propylene glycol. You may remember from your high school chemistry class that ethanol is the “kick” in Kickapoo Joy Juice—grain alcohol. So I assume the vapor detector can pick up the ethanol vapor. Greg

    Hunter 41DS vs 41AC

My Hunter 280 (1996) had an 18 HP 2GM20F and about an 18 or 20 gallon fuel tank….never knew that there was a correlatio. my O’Day 322 (1988) has the same engine…and a19 or 20 fuel tank…so maybe it is not just a Hunter thing. Maybe just practical to size the tank to the engine...

    New Airmar Technology

I sail where there is no current to speak off…so usually just read GPS speed. My paddle wheel is off when on a port tack and leaning…must be the location. I understand why it would be important in any locations where you are dealing with current. Greg

    asymmetrical spinnaker sock

I fly my a-spin when sailing solo. I do have a sock, and a sail bag that I can clip to the lifeline to keep the bag from flying overboard when I raise the sail. Not the easiest, but if in light winds and I am going to be sailing for a while, it is worth pulling it out. I think the sock...

B 311 bilge pump float switch

What kind of pump is it? My boat has a centrifugal pump in the bilge, and the body of the pump is the intake. my shower pan has a drain, with a hose attached, and a diaphragm Pump I think under the sink, that sucks water out of the shower pan. does a centrifugal pump self-prime if not in...

Can't Imagine How This Would Feel

Very costly mistake…news article said that the missed a turn for the lock and ended up on the rocks. feel bad for them…this will be a very costly mistake and won’t do that boat any good… Probably cancels their plans to get to the Bahamas. Greg

Ignorant solar panel and battery questions

Is your motor an outboard? Does it have an alternator? How much do you motor when you go for a sail? We also need to know more about the batteries…specifically type (lead-acid, AGM, ?) and size or Amp-hour capacity. You seem to have modest power consumption needs, but to size a solar panel...

    Water Heater hoses

As said, you are talking about 4 different systems… 1) water heater / engine circuit…engine anti-freeze circulated through engine and the hoses take the hot AF to the heat exchanger in the water-heater…this gives you hot water when motoring…no “winterizing“ of this circuit is required. 2)...

Kubota Diesel (on the hard) model ZH600B

I do that too. My AF comes out of the exhaust a bit “frothy” when I do it this way, but I think I am still getting it circulated throughout the engine, water lift, and hoses effectively. I also have a Groco strainer on my head water intake…so I pour AF in that strainer while someone pumps the...
