How's Your Bottom Doing These Days ?

Sorry I'm late to the party. We repaint the bottom every two years at Granville Island. Ashamed to admit I don't ask what brand/type the bottom paint is, I just pay the bill. This cadence seems to be about right.

    Hanging Bimini

@Ralph Johnstone his tweet isn't aging well... 3rd heatwave this summer. I'm dying on my boat without cover.

    wing on wing sailing

A preventer is an obvious precaution so I won't belabour that point but here's another thought: In many downwind or broad reach scenarios the mainsail is more of a headache than a help. Consider running before the wind with just your headsail and see how well you do. You may find yourself...

    iNavX Problems

I have solved the problem with the help of iNavX support. There is a useful Track function that keeps a record on the chart of your journey (track). I had it turned on and set to a high degree of accuracy and the app had been tracking my every movement for months. At the suggestion of iNavX I...

    iNavX Problems

Hey folks. For those here who use iNavX on an iPhone for charts, has anyone had problems with it freezing up for periods of time? I find it happens mostly when using larger scale charts, almost as if its having trouble processing all the detail. Weirdly I've been using this app for years and...

    Sailing Hammock

Yeah, I scoffed at first but this may be the ticket. Thanks for the suggestion

    Sailing Hammock

This could be a winner. Assuming I can master the "alpine butterfly." Thanks for the input!

    Sailing Hammock

Thanks for your thoughts on attaching to the forestay but what about the pulpit? Ours has a cross bar near the tip that would be perfect.

Hmm this seemed very promising until Larry's response.

    Sailing Hammock

Thanks, as I mentioned I have a furling headsail so tying to the forestay is a little more tricky

    Sailing Hammock

No, this is not about my onboard choice in swimsuits. I've long thought about buying a hammock for the boat to mount on the deck when at anchor. The challenge is the lack of a good forward point of attachment. The forestay seems out because our furling genoa extends too far down and it seems...

    Replacement Traveler Part for H-34

Thanks Mike. Sorry for the delayed response. So you're saying you have the exact replacement block in question? I would happily purchase it from you if you think it's still in reasonable condition. On ours the wheel cracked in half so I'm a bit concerned about that happening again but it's...

    Replacement Traveler Part for H-34

Thanks Kloudie. On closer inspection it says "Rutgerson" so I'll Google that. I was thinking the parts might be a little more standard to Hunter but as you say, they probably equipped the boat with whatever parts were readily available at that time.

    Replacement Traveler Part for H-34

HI Folks; Forgive my lack of the correct terminology but I need to replace the part from my traveler shown in the attached photo. I should actually replace both the port and starboard parts. Is this available on this site? Otherwise any suggestions on where to source? Thanks!

Yanmar 3GM excessive smoke on cold start

We have tried this suggestion but we've been a bit timid doing it for very long. I'll experiment with trying it for a bit longer.

Yanmar 3GM excessive smoke on cold start

It's definitely excess fuel being burnt off. This ONLY happens at cold start and once the engine turns over it runs 100% smoke free. There is no issue with water in the fuel or oil.

Yanmar 3GM excessive smoke on cold start

This is our situation exactly but it "belches quite a bit of smoke initially. Enough to make anyone standing on the dock nearby to be uncomfortable. But once started that's it for the day. Any subsequent start that day is instant. In summer even next day is very quick.

Yanmar 3GM excessive smoke on cold start

Ralph, you would probably recognize the name. I'd rather not say but I'll run it by you in a DM.
