1987 Cat 22 Aft through Transom Scupper Drain Leak

No problem about where you landed. It didn't take much sealant to seal it as you are only filling in a small space around at the edge of the tube. Silicone will work as well but will fail sooner than 5200. But on the positive side, it is a lot easier to remove. Wish you luck with your repair.

1987 Cat 22 Aft through Transom Scupper Drain Leak

You probably posted this in the wrong thread as the C275 has an open transom and we will not have this issue. But I did own a '89 Capri 22 and had the same issue with leaking. I happened to have a small tube of 3M 5200 and sealed the inside and outside where the brass sleeve ran through the...

    Calling all Catalina 275 owners

For some reason, I'm not getting notification of posts even though I'm watching the threads. Anyway, review "pimp" for any ideas. Also, Catalina claims they do not paint the inside, but they did on my boat and they've been doing it for years. Catalina is resistant to custom suggestions and...

    275 Traveler and Main Sheet

I just happened to be thinking on my last sail if I should cut my traveler line into two. As one, you can release the opposite side without reaching for it, but you still can't cleat it. But in 7+ years, I have never released it from the opposite side. The negative, you have an extra 5' of line...

Anyone thinking of selling their 275?

I was thinking there may be some in Toronto because they tried to start one design racing there in 2014, which fizzled out. Doing a google search for: catalina 275 toronto, I did find someone renting one. Not cheap, but may be an option to test sail one without the travel.

Anyone thinking of selling their 275?

Welcome to our forum. I'm considering an upgrade, but still struggling to find a replacement daysailor with a big cockpit. As far as I know, the three in Wilmette (Chicago) are not available for sale. The C275 is an overweight slug, but friends in the cockpit are more important. Once you can...

    Periodic Maintenance - Yanmar Saildrive

After I dropped the filter plug into a narrow glass I was capturing the fuel with, I added a petcock to make checking for water easier. I bought mine at McMaster-Carr, part no. 7910K83. For extra safety, I screw the plug into the end of the petcock. It looks like:

Catalina 275 Rudder float or sink?

It appears my quarter dropped into a glass of water analogy was spot on. I won many, many beers dropping quarters into a pitcher of water targeting a shot glass at the bottom. Everyone would miss, but I figured out a way to cheat. Stack four quarters and drop them flat. Almost guaranteed to win...

    Yanmar SD20 Saildrive

Your internal had more wear than mine which had the wrong alloy for freshwater. But your external probably could have been replaced sooner. Before you re-use the internal, I'd take a wire brush on a drill and shine it up a bit.

Catalina 275 Rudder float or sink?

I would have to assume if the rudder floated, the rudder would not want to drop out, unless you have significant chop. If it sank, it may not go straight down but kind of fly off like a wing. I.E., drop a quarter into a glass of water and it doesn't go straight down. I'd get a scuba tank and do...

    Raw Water Inlet Hose

If it was me, I'd probably just go the easy route and not muck around with the intake hose and use the muffs/cups assuming they can cover the holes correctly. I would have the hose run to a valve that would be on topside and then to the muffs so I could control on/off easily. Turn it on, wait a...

    Raw Water Inlet Hose

I'm not sure of the size of the surface area for the water intake, but could you use an outboard motor flusher, ie. cups? Either way, be careful about letting the water flow too much without the engine running as the water may work its way backwards through the exhaust and hydrolock the engine.

    Anchor light not working

You may be in for a surprise when you get to the top of the mast. While mine was a festoon (cone), the above Ebay picture is a barrel (dimple). The two lights are not the same or at least not manufactured the same. As Dirty Harry said, "do you feel lucky punk?"

Based on the discussion about the new shroud placement last year, I wouldn't be surprised if the number of C275's is closer to 60. I'm sure someone here has better information than I do. You may be able to get some discounts, but with Catalina's dealer structure of preventing you from shopping...

    Pimp my C275

No problems with the cooler because the rounded edges of the cooler increase the depth right where the latches go. But before you drill for the latches, measure, measure, measure, because you don't want to mess that one up. I'll be up to the boat in about a month and can take pictures of the...

    Calling all Catalina 275 owners

What I don't like about the inboard shrouds is the placement of the winches. This is exactly where I put my ass when it is gusty going upwind. One hand on the tiller and the other hand ready to adjust the traveler (after I set my beer down, of course).
