What mods have you made to make single-handing easier?

I can send you.a photo tomorrow if you’re interested and the hatches were closed and the sheet still gets caught under the small hatches if I’m not attentive to keeping the lazy line somewhat taught.

What mods have you made to make single-handing easier?

I just this year ran my topping lift line back to the cockpit. This eliminates two trips to the mast! I also fabricated two teak “covers” and bolted them over the bottom of the outside of the shrouds. They prevent the jib sheets from getting caught under the shroud bolts. I have however, learned...

    AP not holding heading

Thank you for the replies! I went out today and the AP worked perfectly. I did check that the compass setting was correct. The only difference between today and last week was I was motoring today and sailing last week. I’ll be doing some more experimentation next time out.

    AP not holding heading

Hoping to find help with my AP. My issue is that when I hit heading hold on my Vulcan 7 my AP (NAC2 controller) turns to port instead of holding course. Outbound last Saturday it only happened a couple of times but otherwise worked as it should. On my return trip Sunday it would not work...

    B and G autopilot commissioning

I am running my AP with my Vulcan 7. I have worked out the issue of the OP. See the start of the thread where I detail all of the components of my AP system. Ray, PM me if you wish!

    Mast painting

I did my H34 mast last winter. Sanded where necessary, primed with self etching primer (spray can - I believe it took 4 cans to do the mast and spreaders) and painted mostly with a roller and a brush where necessary. It took three coats of paint to totally cover the primer. It looks great and...

Engine coolant temp monitoring on a Vulcan 7

Believe it or not, all I needed to do was power off the MFD and power it back on. Then all my data was displayed! Such a simple little fix that took me hours to realize!

Engine coolant temp monitoring on a Vulcan 7

The pc program is showing proper voltages for the batteries and proper temp for the coolant and zero for the oil which is proper I assume since the engine is not running.

Engine coolant temp monitoring on a Vulcan 7

Yes to all! It’s not even seeing the battery voltages which are a direct read. I connected to each sensor (oil pressure, coolant temp, and tach) via the wires coming from each sensor (as opposed to directly to the sensor), which I see as making no difference and clicked on the voltage source...

Engine coolant temp monitoring on a Vulcan 7

Hello Leslie, I finally got around to purchasing the RS11 and I’m unable to display data on my B&G Vulcan mfd. I see the data scrolling on my lap top but the data does not appear in the “Data” field when I access the RS11 device on my mfd. The mfd sees the RS11 but is not picking up the voltage...

    New Sails - advice?

Mike - I own the same exact boat and just ordered new sails. For what it’s worth Doyle Sails in Bronx NY recommended a 135 head sail and a moderate roach, two full and two partial battens main sail. I sail on the Great South Bay (Long Island) He spent a good amount of time with me explaining my...

    Hunter 34 fuel tank depth

Thanks! I’ve been doing the same with regard to monitoring fuel usage and was surprised to find I still had 12.5” of fuel left after an estimated 18 hrs of run time. I estimate on the cautious side but that’s still less than 1/4 of the 25 gallon tank usage in 18 hours. Maybe I’m being too...

    Hunter 34 fuel tank depth

Can any of you that have replaced the fuel tank on the Hunter 34 (1984) tell me if the depth of the tank is consistent from forward to aft? It appears to me that this tank may be shallower aft then it is forward, but access is extremely limited so hard to tell for sure. I want to install a...

    B and G autopilot commissioning

Everything I mentioned in the OP is everything I have installed. I tried hooking up a STBY switch to the optional hookup but still no luck. I think you all are correct in that I'll need to add a separate controller which I never thought I'd need. I'm a coastal cruiser so the Vulcan is plenty...

    B and G autopilot commissioning

I have installed an autopilot system composed of a Simrad SD10 drive motor, a Precision 9 compass and a NAC2 computer. I'm attempting to run it with a Vulcan 7. The Vulcan is seeing the autopilot but I have not been able to run the dockside commissioning. When I hit the dockside commissioning...

Can anyone identify this electrical connector?

Thanks for the replies! Were sail drives available in 1984?

Can anyone identify this electrical connector?

    It’s right behind the alternator.

Engine coolant temp monitoring on a Vulcan 7

I have been researching a way to hook up a second sending unit in the hot water line going to the hot water heater. I want to be able to read coolant temp on my Vulcan 7 through my NMEA 2000 network. So I need the sending unit hooked up and I need a device to wire the sending unit to that plugs...
