O’Day 40 - Battery setup- what are you using?

Thanks, I probably should look into carbon foam. However given the difference in usable AH between 2 @ 6v GC’s and an equivalent number of Group 27, FLA’s @50% DOD (112v.100), it doesn’t seem like there is much bang for the buck. Agree that solar is worth a look.

O’Day 40 - Battery setup- what are you using?

Looking to expand upon the minimal battery compartment on my O’Day 40 & am a little stymied. Current batt box beneath rear berth only holds 2 GP27 batteries and my start battery is housed in the stbd lazerette. 200 AH w/ only 100 AH usable is pretty minimal. Would like to know if you have a...

    asymmetrical spinnaker sock

I see you’re ear Annapolis. There’s a guy that usually shows up at the Annapolis Sailboat show, don’t remember his name, that makes them somewhere near Deale. Never did purchase a asym for my previous 34 but he had a good product that was more reasonable than ATN

O’Day 40- instrument Mounting in Bulkhead-

Hello all- will answer this question for the next person who comes along. There is insufficient room to snake a cable between the outer & inner skins; maybe a 3/8" space, at best. I wound up drilling two holes- a larger hole in the outer skin for the instrument and a 3/4" dia. hole for the cable...

O’Day 40- instrument Mounting in Bulkhead-

Has anyone mounted an instrument here? Seems like there is an inner liner & a space between the outerbulkhead here & I’m wondering if there is enough room between the two to mount a Raymarine i70 here w/o drilling thru both?

Hull construction at keelson, O'Day 40

Don- Sorry to see that you are having issues. I’d recommend calling Rudy at D&R Marine in MA, he worked on the production of the last O’Days and seems to be the leading authority. Don’t recall if I asked you if your boat has a below decks autopilot,if so, could you please send me a pic of the...

    Autopilot install on O’Day 40

Interesting you should mention this. I’ve just finished assembling a Rpi 4 base system, struggled trying to find a sizeable touchscreen that works & am in the process of building a new panel for it. I’ll probably wait until the new Montessier hat is available prior to install. For now, charts...

    Autopilot install on O’Day 40

That may well be the case but the Displacement of the 39’s & 40’s exceed the rated capacity of the wheel pilot. While I’m not crossing oceans or offshoring just yet, I’m inclined to bite the boat bucks bullet lest I ever find myself in a position where my bacon is compromised by my frugality.

    Autopilot install on O’Day 40

Definitely time for an autopilot on my 40 &. I had hoped to do it this winter while the boat is still on the water. However, when I looked at the rudder post I could see no keyway to secure a post. Is anybody familiar with this, could I have missed this? Seems inconceivable that a large boat...

    Electronics Ugrades - best approach?

I’m facing a similar quandary, older boat needing new electronics... Agree the idea of systems integration is enticing, where everything fits together & works, until something goes south. Surprisingly, that was an easier choice than choosing the primary electronics. $300 later armed with Open...

O'day 40 Holding Tank questions (ha ha)

Thank you for a reply Peggy, I’ve got your book! The tank is located under the v-berth- it’s a flared space and the current tank is 29.5 L x 8.5 w x 11.5 d. I can go a couple of inches longer or a couple of inches wider but not much. I was measuring tonight and am having difficulty finding...

O'day 40 Holding Tank questions (ha ha)

OEM for the O'Day 40 is a miserly 15 gal tank, guess they weren't planning for anyone to go very far or for very long. Has anybody replaced their original with something larger? If so, would love to know whose tank & the capacity which they were able to cram in there. I'm hoping to replace my...

    O’Day. 40- reefing setup?

Turns out that a 10 mm line works very nicely, my thoughts were that 3/8@dia. Too small. Ordered more rope (again) & will install Friday. Anybody need a good deal on 75’ of never been used 1/2” XLS3?

    O’Day. 40- reefing setup?

The plot thickens- Armed with a schematic downloaded from rig-rite & new cordage I thought I’d just use a steel tape & fish my new lines through the boom. Not as easy as I thought & Long story short, wound up having to take the boom off to get to the sheeves at both ends. I had assumed that...

    O’Day. 40- reefing setup?

Fanatic- thanks much for your post. Earlier today I thought to look at the rig-rite web site who has parts for Isomast spars and the single line system is what was shown.
