    Too much mast rake

You said your mast is raked even when everything is loose. I'm not sure I understand as when everything is loose - both back and fore stays - the mast can then be pushed to rake forward or back. In other words, if everything is loose, there should be nothing stopping it from being straight...

    Too much mast rake

In my limited experience I have found that the mast is quite flexible. Do you have a baby stay? I do, and it has a great impact on mast bend. I control rake by forestay length and forestay tension by tensioning the backstay. I've never measured tension with a gauge, but, as described in Sail...

Where's all this water coming from?

Re cockpit drain: mine failed where the hose exits the back. The drain is fixable without pulling the boat though. Good luck and keep us posted.

Where's all this water coming from?

In my Sirius, under the forepeak there are closed compartments that are supposed to have foam for floatation - though that is likely completely disintegrated. On the port side there is a hole drilled between the compartment and the next locker (and further aft from locker to locker). This allows...

    Sirius 21 keel

Good to see the info and pictures. Seeing as how the bolt is in good shape, I think I won't worry about mine too much. At my club and the sail shop they said they've heard of cables failing, but never bolts - unless it had to do with someone running aground at speed.

    Sirius 21 keel

That sounds great. Please keep me posted as to the condition of the bolt so I know if it should be on my list for next season.

    Sirius 21 keel

I've asked a number of people about this as my keel bumps and thuds when chop is on the beam. Apparently, all swing keels have a bit of play. I changed the cable on mine this year (and checked the eye-bolt where it attaches). I would like to check the pivot bolt, but it seems like a serious...

    Traveler

Thanks for the tip. I'll look into it.

    Traveler

Does anyone have/ has anyone had a traveler on their Sirius? I'm thinking it would help get closer to the wind, but the only place one would go is about a foot and a half aft of the companionway. Judging by old bolt holes a previous owner tried it there. However, it seems terribly in the way and...

    Cockpit drain

Just an FYI for other owners: On my Sirius, the hose from the cockpit drain runs through the starboard locker to a stern through hull above the waterline. The locker is connected with the interior. Last season I was away and on a very stormy day short waves were ramming into the stern. This...

    Keel cable replacement

Hi everyone. I'm looking to replace my keel cable for the first time. Question 1) the cable still looks fine but hasn't been replaced in a long time. Should I just replace it? 2) Is there a turning ball or similar inside somehow, or does the cable just go straight down? 3) My keel does...
