I purchased a Hunter Legend 35 that had a Spin-Tech Triumph 2000 roller furler already installed. We have had trouble from the start in both lowering and raising the sail to and from the catch hook at the top. It comes with a urethane car you run up the leading edge of the foil with a halyard and a chase line to hook or unhook. I have tried the jib halyard, main halyard and even installed a new spinnaker halyard and tried it. I have had to go up the mast whenever installing or uninstalling the head sail. I am almost at my wits end and ready to buy a more conventional furler. has anyone had experience with this system? Is there a trick I can try? I have tried to research and it seems the company no longer exists.

I have not had any experience with the Spin-Tech Furlers. I did find some info using an AI search. (Link attached)

also this link from Practical Sailor magazine.

It is difficult to resolve an issue when the company has been closed for 15 years. You might find the easiest solution is to replace the furler. I inherited an aged furler. It was more effective to replace than to repair.

Do you have any pics of the car and/or the sheeves for the halyards? It is hard to suggest a solution when we can't see the problem.

Good idea. I have a feeling the Pacific NW and Canada will soon be sending you some winter weather. Looks like the temps will be in the 40’s at night and 50-60 in th day for the next 2 weeks. That can not last long. The Monday storm looks to scoot past Kansas towards Chicago and the mid-west on Monday. Indian summer for you guys in Kansas. Enjoy.

We recently purchased a Gulf 32 which has a Spin-Tec Triumph 2000 on the headsail. After some research, I learned about an accessory that Spin-Tec made to help with lower/raising the sail. I found this video:
Since I can't locate anywhere to purchase this accessory, I plan to make my own- approximating measurements mainly from this video. If I'm successful, I'll post here early next week with what I created that worked.

Thank you, I had seen this. It works great on 6' high foresail, but not so great on a 45' high foresail. I have the accessory (call it a car).

I realized after I typed that our boat probably doesn't have the hood at the top -- as there is no 'car' in inventory (at least I haven't found it yet). So, I'll probably have to go up the mast to release the shackle.

Sorry to hear that. We have the car, but have trouble keeping it on the foil. I am going to give it a try with both the jib halyard and the spinaker halyard and if I cant get it free, I too will have to go up the mast to release it.

One part of the whole furler puzzle that may have been misplaced in all the Q&A and back n forth... Inside that vintage furler is an old forestay. Unless you have proof that it's been replaced in less than a decade, it's way way past time for a new stay.

Back a few years, when our faithful Harken Mk2 furler was wearing out some of its internal parts, we consulted with a sailmaker/rigger and decided to replace the furler with a new Mk4 version and a new headstay.
Unless you have rigging training and background, it's usually less expensive to replace the whole assembly. A heck of a lot safer, also!
Having experienced a dismasting (on another boat during a coastal delivery) I would Never take a chance on ancient rigging. :frown:
Good Luck and fair winds. :)
