Dock neighbor went out for a shakedown and found this on the deck afterwards. I thought perhaps it was a leach line cleat.

Maybe something to do with a batten pocket? To hold it open? Look for others in/on the sail.

It looks like the batten lock has been broken and dropped out of the jib when it was unfurled or flogged out. Just a guess as I have no experience with a jib batten but the yellow thingy looks like my mainsail battens. Someone here will know but for now I'm going to go find out what a leach line cleat is because I don't know that either.

My leech line cleat is a plastic insert on the leech that has a groove to accept the leech line. When you tighten the leech line, you jam the line in the groove, and the cleat holds it there. A jam cleat.

Thanks for the ideas, all. Will check these possibilities.

Leech line cleats samples..... they're just small, thin vee/clam cleats for the leech cord.
