I just bought a 81 hunter 27 and am looking for a owners manual. Also the couple I bought it from had in out in ruff weather and broke the line through the boom to the mast

There isn't much of an "Owner's Manual", but check
here in the archives for "Hunter 27" to see if it's posted.
It will show where the plumbing and wiring went when new, and where the tanks are.
No telling what mods may have been made over the past 40 years.
You say they broke the "line through the boom to the mast".
Well, it could be the out haul line, or it could be a reefing line.
Perhaps a topping lift...
If you can describe where the line was attached from the mast to the boom,
I can answer more definitively.

I have a 84 Hunter 27, which is almost identical to the 81, There are 3 lines that run through the boom, The outhaul, and the 1st & 2nd reefing lines. The reefing lines run through a jam cleat on either side of the boom near the gooseneck, There is a system of 2 blocks inside the boom for the outhaul which provides for extra tension on the outhaul (this one is a PITA) to replace . It exits the boom at the gooseneck then runs along the underside of the boom to a jam cleat at the aft end of the boom.
