    2020 Oceanis 30.1/ Trailering

Thanks Benny - We'll never stop sailing. The thing I've come to love about a trailer sailor is the absence of certain maintenance and the constant worry (when she's in the water), of is she dry? Did a through hull crap out and sink her. I sank a beautiful little Salt Marine 19 gaff rigger twice...

    2020 Oceanis 30.1/ Trailering

Greetings to the group. Though I currently sail a modest 22 foot trailer sailor that I've lovingly restored over the past few years, I've been sailing for many years from Sun Fish to larger cruising boats. We like to tell ourselves that our 22 footer is our "practice and certification boat" for...

Method for attaching external portlights for V222

Hey there Rev. I'm replacing mine over the next week. I had plexiglass cut and tapered. I'm using 3M VHB tape, some #8 stainless fasteners and have built a wooden frame to receive the fasteners on the inside, so to create a sandwich. I'll get some pics up soon. Fair Winds Todd

V222 Keel Water Intrusion? (Fiberglass model)

Greetings All! Did someone say repairing a keel on a V222, well have I got a story for you Rusty. Welcome to the club and if anyone hasn't already mentioned it... Your name is spot on for these types of keels and could be it's eventual undoing (though it sounds like you have some time). The fact...

    Considering an Ericson Independence 31

I just talked to the broker and he has a contract pending on it! That's the way it goes... but, I've learned a lot about the Ericson's and will put them on my list! Thanks everyone. I told the broker to let me know if the deal falls through. I agree $9k from $25K someone got a deal.

    Considering an Ericson Independence 31

Thanks Justin... I have in fact, read this thread. I guess I'm looking for more experience based advise or suggestions. It would be great to hear from someone who live aboard one or did some extend cruising.

    Considering an Ericson Independence 31

Good to hear from you Dragonfly, It's always a pleasure. Yes I have indeed read that article but appreciate your input whenever and wherever you want to add it. I've been busy sailing all summer some my visits to the forum "tail off" as the season gets going. Alas with a nip in the air my mind...

    Considering an Ericson Independence 31

Greetings Ericson Owners - I'm considering an Ericson Independence 31as a potential cruising sailboat. I'll give a bit of background and what we expect from our next boat... or as we refer to it, the "big boat." We are currently sailing a Venture 222 that we lovingly restored over two years...

Are two headsails better than one?

Dr. Judy - thanks for the details. The diagram is the exact same as my set-up (though newer and probably way more expensive lol). I wish I had this last year. I figured out the system by trial and error and jamming the drum a few times. They are really much simpler than I had imagined. Though...

Are two headsails better than one?

I thought you might weigh in Dr. Judy and thank you. I think you commented the last time I broached the subject of furlers. Mine is ancient but, it did a great job with the genao last summer. Once I got the hang of it, it was pretty simple. There is no brand printed anywhere on it and it is as...

Spinnaker for my V222 is 28' Luff too big?

I have a chance to buy a nearly new spinnaker at a great price. The luff is 28' and from what I can see on various sail sites... 24' to 26' is the recommended luff. Is this size manageable?

Are two headsails better than one?

While getting organized for the sailing season I happened upon a very good condition jib (Rick Wallace Sailmaker S. Cali) still crispy and in good condition, a 110%, I think. For those who followed the restoration of S/V Sea Gypsy (our vintage V222 from the first production run), you understand...

Wooden Boats - Someone Talk Some Sense Into Me

Nice pictures John... Like I said earlier in this post. It's coming if it hasn't happened already. And heck if the sea levels keep rising we'll be ahead of the game!

Wooden Boats - Someone Talk Some Sense Into Me

Always good to hear from you Will. In much the way "Zen and the Art of Motorcycle Maintenance" was a vehicle for profound life change, I've often though sailing offers many similar lessons (times ten). I'm constantly learning from my boats. In fact, this weekend I picked up Sea Gypsy from the...

Wooden Boats - Someone Talk Some Sense Into Me

Capa - That's a good idea and might be more feasible. I guess the "kernel of the idea" comes from wanting to provide an experience. Specifically and nautical / sailing one. I see our numbers dwindling. The Hobie Cat's don't line the beaches like the use to, The Sunfish don't line the lake shores...
