How to tell when one needs new sails

I don't race, but I've been definitely getting passed by everyone out on the bay! haha

How to tell when one needs new sails

Ok, bunch of photos in this album: https://www.flickr.com/photos/mattbillenstein/albums/72157714458382503 The main is pretty spent - Judy had a good laugh looking at these photos ;) Note, I had forgotten to ease the topping lift, so that probably doesn't help...

How to tell when one needs new sails

Yes @DrJudyB , that's a very nice thread - I can't get my main anywhere close to that flat, but I don't have any good pictures really. I might get out this weekend, I'll post a pic, might be educational. And from my limited experience, I'd say the boat performs rather poorly - heels in gusts...

    Jib sheet cars

Hi, I have two sets of cars on my 1988 Capri 22 - one set right in front of the cockpit winches, and one set on the cabin top. I've normally rigged the furling jib inside the shrouds to the cabin-top cars, then to the cars in front of the winch. This setup seems to make it hard to flatten out...

Setting up for easy single handed sailing

What sorta system did you have? I'm thinking of playing around with just a block at the base of the mast, but I might then try building something like a traveler using another block and line.

Setting up for easy single handed sailing

Does anyone have experience setting up an auto-tacking jib? http://www.catalina22experiment.com/home/projects/auto-tacking-jib I'm not racing and being able to essentially do a tack by just turning the boat seems very appealing - I might give this a shot the next time I go out.
