    Tender Help

In my experience, the blow up floors are faster to set up, but the solid floor inflatable keel boats will allow you to carry things like large crusty anchors with less concern of doing damage to the floor. Depending on your particular intended use, the better choice may vary.

    Tender Help

I'm not aware of anyone who goes to have their engine checked. I stated that only because some tree-hugger types take exception to that sort of thing. I have offered to help someone get their outboard running better by adjusting their idle mix, only to find that they would prefer to deal with...

    Tender Help

I've done that. The results were ok. Top end power did seem to increase. Idle performance became more rough & less reliable (even after tuning the idle mixture). If you look at the parts books for the 4hp & the 6hp, you will see that a few other parts are different, not just the carb. If...

    Tender Help

That boat should be able to plane with 6HP, one person & a modest amount of equipment. Most 4,5,6hp have the ability to use an internal gas tank or external gas tank. I like having that option. I have used a 5hp with 6hp carb on both a 10' & 11' dink. It was a good match for 1 person on the...

Would You Use Biodiesel if Available

I used to work in a place that fired an 1100hp boiler on recovered combustable liquids. A special permit was required (from the EPA?). The burner had an adjustable mix ratio. I was not the boiler operator, so I do not have all the details, but I do know that it has been done.

    Can you identify this?

Electric water heaters work by way of ohmic heating elements. The elements can be changed. They come in different voltages & different watt ratings. Higher watt ratings & lower voltages use more amps. I commonly see 110vac & 220vac elements. Most are 220vac. Most elements run around 20-25...

Would You Use Biodiesel if Available

From what I have read, there is a process by which you render vegetable oil to make it into bio-diesel. The use of raw vegitable oil is said to cause issues. I know of one person who has two tanks in a truck, one with diesel & one with veggie oil. He starts the engine on diesel, then after...

    Tender Help

When buying replacement tubes for larger Zodiac RHIBs that had bolt rope attachment, I was able to get the same 5 year warranty on Hypalon & Vinyl tubes. If that 8' RIB with hard V bottom is new, with a 5 year warranty on the tubes, that would be my first choice, assuming that you don't need...

Perkins 4-108, any comments, opinions, or things to watch out for?

I had a bid in, & thought that I had an agreement, then the seller brought in other perspective buyers, hoping for a higher bid. I withdrew my offer & walked away. The motor has yet to run. There are other fish in the sea. Thank you again for the constructive responses I received here. The...

Perkins 4-108, any comments, opinions, or things to watch out for?

I'm thinking of buying a boat that has a 4-108 engine in it. The motor looks poorly kept, but is said to run. I hope to test run her tomorrow. Is there anything I should watch for? Does this motor have known issues? Are parts readily available at reasonable prices?

    Tender Help

Flat bottomed inflatables don't steer well at all. Deeper V hard bottoms handle the best, but shallow V gets on plane with less HP. Hard bottoms hold up to shell covered beaches better than inflatable bottoms. There are now 3 types of tube material. 1) CSM, which is commonly called "Hypalon"...

H26.5 - Where do the bow light wires go?

I did not have the manual. That is a very good step in the right direction for me. Thank you very much.

H26.5 - Where do the bow light wires go?

The bow light works intermittently when I wiggle the wires that go into the bow rail, so I am pretty sure that my problem is in the wiring, within a few feet of the bow light. I do know where the corresponding switch & fuse are located. The stern light is on the same circuit. I do not have a...
