    what's the difference?

My water pump turns out to be so weak, that when I tried to install the water strainer between the seacock and the engine, no more water flowed. Just that little bit of extra resistance stopped it. No wonder the motor wants to run hot. MD6A. New impeller. The pump walls seem smooth...

    what's the difference?

The guy at the West Marine that I was at said that he knew yanmars well, but not Volvos. He said the other diesels have reverse thermostats. rb

    what's the difference?

Hi Richard, I put an automotive one in last year. Just pulled it and it looked coroded. Maybe not plated properly for salty water? rb

    what's the difference?

Is the Vega, MD6A thermostat reverse from an automotive one? Apparently, some open when they get hot, and some close when they get hot. rb

Advise on few pieces of goodies

I redid my wiring so that the circuit to both batteries is identical. I looked at the old wiring diagram for my boat and it looked weird. I did not see the value in going through such wiring calisthenics. Maybe it is because the batteries in the 60s and 70s were not as robust? idk There is...

    New Dodger for the Vega

On the subject of the dodger... I am also in the market for a dodger (frame and canvas). If anyone wants to double up with me and buy two or more of these at the same time, let me know. We can try to get a cheaper price. roy

    Fuel pipes for MD6?

Hi William, Not sure if you are referring to the solid or flexible pipes, but one place to look is a company that fabricates for diesel trucking. There should be many of these companies near you. Make sure they use marine grade stuff as the coast guard has preferences if you are ever inspected...

Mounting solar panel on the coach roof

My charge controller instructions say to connect battery terminals first and panel second. Keep that in mind as you measure current. Gh

Mounting solar panel on the coach roof

Just bent them and put them under the screws. No crimp connectors. I moved the charge controller to the battery and it seems to be working better. Thanks for the tip. THe resistance of the wire is 0.078 ohms. THe solar panel is rated at 85 watts. So I am expecting to see somewhere around 5...

Mounting solar panel on the coach roof

Mounting solar panel on the coach roof

Yes, I understand now. The PWM controller is watching its output terminals to see if the battery is charged, and if the wire is too long, it will get faked out that the battery is more charged than it really is and turn itself down. Thanks. groundhog

Mounting solar panel on the coach roof

Yes, I noticed too much voltage drop on my first set of wires and changed them out yesterday for AWG 10 solid copper. Can you explain further the nature of the loss you describe? I dont understand. gh
