    135% Genoa On 25.5 Hunter ????

I have a 150 that came with my 25.5. In light air it works great, but I have found that oftentimes it is more sail than the 25.5 needs. And it is almost always a pain to tack. Also, to provide for proper sheeting of the 150 I had to add over a foot of track to each jib fairlead track. (How the...

    Best Depth finder for $200

Depth Sounder for Hunter 25.5 Comments on your search for a depth sounder for a Hunter 25.5: In lieu of a traditional depth sounder I installed a Garmin 160C fish finder on my Hunter 25.5. The color display shows a profile of the bottom. This provides some feel for how fast the bottom is...

    rigging Hunter 25

I bought my Hunter 25.5 in 2011. When I dropped the mast to trailer the boat back to Texas I found that the shrouds were not properly seized. Not seizing the shrouds is one of those things you can get away with, but you do so at your own peril.

    rigging Hunter 25

The reason a shroud should be seized (fastened) to the end of the spreader is to keep it from popping out when underway. On a beat in heavy air it is not at all uncommon for the leeward upper to be very slack. If it pops out (and you don't notice it) you will lose the rig on the next tack.

L25-V - Lead bulging into cockpit

Lead does not rust, iron does. From my experience (albeit limited) internal ballast of rusting iron shot is a terminal problem. Once water incursion into the ballast starts it is very difficult to dry out the ballast enough to prevent further rusting, even if you can prevent further water incursion.

    Cabin lights

Robert, In the off chance that my response may be useful to others I am responding to you in this thread rather than with a PM. When I refurbished my 25.5 I reused the original wiring for the running lights and the inside (cabin) lights. And indeed I reused the original fixtures (both...

    Outhaul for Loose-Footed Main

Jackdaw's velcro strap will work, but if you have a bolt rope slot on your boom you can use a metal sail slug to rig a clew attachment similar to what they use on the Navy 44s. The Navy 44 Boat Information Book (BIB) is available online and it contains all kinds of information that is...

Save me from early 80's electrical!

Three years ago I bought a Hunter 25.5 built in the mid-80's. Over the years various owners had installed a variety of very scary electrical accouterments ... all of which I ripped out. But once I got the solid copper romex, the speaker wire to the outboard starter, the single pole breaker on...

    mast crutch

On my boat I lift a 75 lb. outboard with one of the main halyards. It is a two man job, one hoists while the other positions the outboard horizontally. This is very easy to rig ... and it very easy to move the outboard anywhere you want it. I would not recommend this in any sort of seaway, but...

    25.5 bulkhead replacement

Replacing the Bulkheads on a Hunter 25.5 I replaced both bulkheads and the cabin sole on my 1985 Hunter 25.5 ... but I did this while it was on the hard, with the mast down. Thus I have no direct experience replacing the bulkheads with the mast up. Regardless, in my opinion, if the...
