    Sailboat Conversion to Trawler

I don’t know how much gas it will guzzle but the conversion that I’m looking at should only draw about 2 feet. She won’t have any of the rigging or superstructure that she was borne with. I’m going to have a lot of fun with it. Deep Sea

    Sailboat Conversion to Trawler

Thanks Pat. I'd really be interested in reading his book. I've read a lot about the loop and would like to do it but I believe that my first mate and I are just a bit long in the tooth to attack the loop. Another great cruise (much shorter) is the Rideau Canal in Canada. 125 miles from...

Sweet looking ride FastOlson but that is no sailboat conversion. I like the two person cabin with the covered after deck. Thanks Deep Sea

    Sailboat Conversion to Trawler

Thanks for the reply. All good points most of which I've already considered. Some I have not and I thank you for the heads up. As a lot of people have said in their replies this is a small boat and although I have sailed her in some rougher weather she will not see any of that in her new...

Thanks for the reply. Looks like I may have missed getting an HIN by a few years.

    Sailboat Conversion to Trawler

Thanks for the reply. You are ritght, I'm going ahead with this little project. I'm reading a lot about these conversions online. Seems I'm not the only crazy out there. I'll post pics as the project moves forward.

    Sailboat Conversion to Trawler

No doubt I love being on "and in" the water. I'm a Navy bratt and a retired deep sea diver. Being retired I have more time for my hobbie which is building wooden boats. I'm currently in the middle of building the Seneca. One of Jeff Spira's little dorys. Working on the Trawler conversion in...

Thanks jssailem. Is that HIN placement true of all sailboats or just the Cals? Deep Sea

    Sailboat Conversion to Trawler

My most humble apologies to Mr. Lapworth but the 1st mate has over-riding authority :) I don't fish but we do like to cruise at a slow speed and sight-see, explore and enjoy the water. Deep Sea

    Sailboat Conversion to Trawler

Looking for a low powered economical boat. I have the boat and it has a bad leak in the keel area. I gain about 5 to 10 gallons in a good sailing day. I love the boat but I don't like the leaks. I removed the keel and don't want the hassle of repair and replacement. 1st mate is not much for...

    Sailboat Conversion to Trawler

I've done some reading on the ballast issues. My swing keel carries 360 pounds. I plan to compensate with adjusted ballast for stability. Possibly cut up my keel and add some concrete after I adjust the fore and aft positioning. Sound about right to you? I'm retired as well. Loving life...

    Sailboat Conversion to Trawler

I've just been reading some articles about converting my small sailboat to a Trawler. Does anyone have any information or experience with this project? Pictures and design ideas would be very helpful. Thanks Deep Sea

    Cal 21 Year Built

How can I tell when my Cal 21 was built? Wikipedia tells me that there were 500 Cal 21s built between 1969 and 1972. My Virginia registration says mine was built in 93 but I'm sure that is the year that I bought it and registered it. I could not find the hull number or registration plate so a...
