Cockpit drain valve and replacement sheets for main and jib

We are sailing in Oyster Bay, on Long Island. We keep her in during the winter and take her out as long the water isn't hard. Not sure where you are at, but she stands up nicely during a short winter sail. Just figured I would plant the seed in case you can't wait until the spring.

Cockpit drain valve and replacement sheets for main and jib

Kevin and Karen, I have a '79 sirius. My sink drain is connected to the thru-hull with a rubber hose. It has been on my "to do" list for about 6 yrs now to install some type of valve between the hose and the thru-hull (going sailing always seems like more fun than boat work). So far water...

    Replacing the main sheet cleat

We thought about putting in a new access plate, but since we have access through starboard lazarette, that might be our best bet.

    Replacing the main sheet cleat

Hey all, I have a Sirius 21. The main sheet cleat is attached to a circular block of wood, which is mounted on to the transom. The block of wood rotted out and the cleat in not secure anymore. Has anyone had this problem and how did you fix it? There does not seem to be any way to access the...

This is a work in progress. I will post here if I find out anything and you do the same if you get any leads.

    New/replacement sails for sirius 21

I know Santa just came, but I am already planning for next Christmas. I would like to replace the main and jib on my sirius 21. I am using the original Storer (sp?) sails. I really like them but the patching and the re-grommeting of the jib is getting a bit much. Any recommendation on source...

    Reefing the jib

I agree but it is the whole "you're an adult" point where your argument gets a little shaky.

    Reefing the jib

Yes, it worked for us too, but it sure wasn't pretty. I figured I would check for "local knowledge" to see if there was a trick that I was missing. In hind-sight we should have reefed the main and used the full jib. A storm jib would be nice also. Too bad Christmas has just passed. I will...

    Reefing the jib

Took the Sirius 21 out for a sail yesterday. It was blowing 10-15kts with gust up to what seemed to be the 25-30 kts range. So we decided to reef the jib for the first time. The two reefing lines/straps worked ok, but the clew end was definitely flapping about. Thinking about using an...

    Sirius 21- Moving On

I own the same boat for a year. I sail in during the winter in Long Island. I found it to be a great, responsive boat. I previously sailed a 21' oday and found the sirius to sail and handle significantly better. I too kept it in a slip. I only had to launch it and pull it once, but neither...

    Post your Sirius sailing pictures

Here are a few pics from a Christmas Eve and New Year's Day sail in Oyster Bay NY with our recently purchased Sirius (#173). Really happy with the way she sails. I have sailed several similar sized swing keels (I wont mention any names to avoid hate mail) and the Sirius is so much more responsive.

Size of block and pulley for main sheet

Thanks for everyone's help. I found the hardware I needed. Just need to get the motor I bought up and running again and I will be all set for a Christmas eve day sail

Size of block and pulley for main sheet

Can anyone tell me the size of the fiddle block and pulley they use for their main sheet system. I am trying to order online to save money and the sizes do not mean a lot to me. On a side note: This is the first time I have had to buy sailing hardware and I am experiencing sticker shock. $20...

    Main sheet arrangement

Hey everybody, I just put my new to me sirius 21(1978) in the water today. There was some block and tackle on the boat that I assumed was for the main sheet. Upon closer inspection, not so. So we rigged up a line through a shackle hooked to the end of the boom and then lead back to the...
