    USB at the Helm

Have you tried to run a 10ft usb cable from a warm, dry place inside? No new holes or wiring. That is what I did on my 305. Works great in most conditions. If it gets too snotty, you unplug for a while and you have a full battery.

    Alternator excitation

Oh I gotcha. I got my acronyms blurred. Not sure about an ASD but I have a negative switch to totally kill all power to the dc system. Is that close enough? Yeah I’ve zapped myself a couple times and it is more a zinger than painful. Doesn’t take many times before you learn to turn the power...

Well I’m most of the way there... already ACR’d up and I’ll be sure to fuse the alternator wire. So you can add me to the even less common column. :plus:

    Alternator excitation

OKOK, old problem separate solution. Whenever I start the motor, I now (almost) always check to see that I’m getting 14v. Well, that happens about half of the time. It is resolved with some cursing and unplugging and plugging the panel a few times. Then the motor bears down and it jumps from...

    Knocking in rudder post

Cool thanks. I have some time to do some research and get some quotes. I’m not planning on pulling it out of the water for a couple years yet. Would that be fine? It doesn’t seem like it is an emergency.

Well, I can’t get the video to load. This is the only thing knocking. It isn’t major but it is enough I can hear it while under sail.

    Knocking in rudder post

so... I’m still figuring out my new boat. All my steering cables are tight. My rudder post packing isn’t leaking. My rudder post isn’t leaking. But, when I am out on the water, I can hear some knocking and this is the only thing I could find. My previous boat was a tiller, so I’m still new to...

    Alternator excitation

CRISIS AVERTED!! EVERYONE JUST RELAX... Well it helps when the plug powering the entire panel gets plugged in. The dummy lights work and now charging at 14v... (Well that was a little embarrassing)

    Alternator excitation

Yeah I know we want 14v. That is what started this whole journey. I think I have a few good places to start. I only mention the lower volts because that would confirm everything functions normally and it is the alternator that is bad (still)

Yeah that is what I’m thinking. That is item #2 right? It has 4 prongs and it is still on the 1st prong. Or maybe 4th??? It is on one of the ends...
