Ours is from a different builder, but the spring return design looks very similar. Idea is that you move the pin down to a lower hole to add compression to the spring as it ages.
We have made this adjustment once in about 15 years, when the boom (with the weight of furled sail) was obviously sagging a few inches.

Love the whole design.... great having the boom stay 'up'.
BTW, do you snap the main halyard to the end and sock it up tight to keep the boom from wandering from side to side when the sail is down? :)
Wish our prior boat had one of these!
 
New boat to me; haven't been attaching the main halyard to the boom end when the sail is furled, but I used to always on my old boat!
