One LAST explination.

Lets try to agree on a few things. We have FIBERGLASS boats not Steel or Aluminum Boats. Your internet article deals with STEEL ONLY - Points 2 & 3). Read the the 2nd paragraph - GUIDELINE ONLY - EACH APPLICATION IS DIFFERENT. We use our boats in Water: WATER ENVIRONMENTS (Point # 3) 1. Some Fresh Water - All most NO Consumption rate. If it were distilled water there would be NO consumption rate. The impurities create the electronically bond between the different metals (Bronze, Brass, Cast Iron, Stainless Steel, ect). And the rates between the various metals also differs. 2. Some Brackish Water - A higher Consumption Rate. 3. Salt Water (Not all Ocean Waters have the same amount of Salts) - The highest Consumption Rates. The greater the salts and impurities the greater the electronically bond or consumption rate. The above deal with SOME of the CONSUMPTION RATES but not all (Point # 4) My point is / was - you can calculate if you know the type & mass of all the various metals that will or may be affected through out the boat OR with a meter put the precise amount of Zinc on a boat for the WATER consumption it floats in (This addresses Point # 1). It is impossible to include all of the other variables (dock electric, other electrical stray current such as other boats or locations the boat will visit). So bottom line to be Extra Safe - Over Zinc. The grater amount of Zinc or (really surface area of Zinc) will give you more time between replacing the zinc. If one zinc goes in 1 month then 2 might last 2 months and so on. We want the zinc to be lost not the bronze prop, thru-hulls or the SS drive shaft. One last thing, Do NOT over zinc an Aluminum or Steel Boat - Damage will /may occur. Fiberglass - no problem. We are on the same boats, but with different environments, amounts of different (Noble) metals and how they are interconnected creating the need for different amount of zinc protection. Just like people we are all different with different needs. My need is to leave this discussion. Fair winds and smooth sailing, Gordon
