In a recent rebuild I re-assembled my 2GM20F head with new combustion chamber packing, copper gaskets, insulators and copper covers. Torqued down the injectors in their holders and have been running the engine in for about 4-5hrs now. Today I wanted to remove the injectors but had a devil of a time - the injector holders were VERY sticky in the head with what looks like carbon deposits between injector holder and head. The combustion chambers are still in there and don't want to budge. Has anyone else had this problem? What is is caused by? I used 12.5 ftlbs on the nuts. And.. any ideas for removing the chambers (I've tried turning the engine over to try to blow them out.. no joy). Back to auto tech..

Patrick, My manual says you should torque to

14.5 Ft LBS. so you are close. But still, you are about 20% under, according to my manual. That could cause carbon to blow by the packing and cause your problem. Perhaps a dedicated solvent will loosen it up.
