Thinking about buying a storm damaged 1994 Hunter 23.5, does anyone know where the second VIN is? they usually hide them some behind hardware, I can clearly see the one near the transom. Thanks

I think you are confusing the VIN with the documentation numbers that have to be permanently attached to the boat. I believe your h23.5 might be too small to be documented.

Thank you Roland for the Welcome, Coast guard regs require all boats manufactured after 1985 to have a hidden VIN#, even a documented boat has a VIN number, I have seen them on my other Hunters, usually when removing something for service, there is one somewhere, I just want to check it and know its location as they ask to see it, sometimes in Mexico.

Mine is under the forward part of the companionway cover on the lip facing forward.

Use your camera to take a picture and then you can view it right side up and even enlarge it.

Oh, ok I figured it out, I looked all over it and did not see it, guess I will start removing panels, not many places to look , not a big boat.

Well...that was brutal.

I didn't know that. My h30 is a '77. Learn something new every day. Thanks.

even a documented boat has a VIN number
Now, that I knew. My h30 is documented as well and the doc numbers are permanently attached in the boat.

I could go look at mine but it got cold, all the way down to the lower 40s

I looked it is there

If you open the companionway hatch all the way open then look down into the channel where all the rain and gunk collects it is right there looking back up at you. Mine was embarrassingly dirty. the boat has been severely neglected as I have been remodeling and building an addition onto the house. Got to get to the boat and clean it up. Right after I redo the interior in the Mustang. Think you'll have more time when you retire? Guess again.

I FOUND IT, right were Rick and Crazy Dave said, had to lift the mast out of the way so I could lift it up the hatch high enough to see it, its on a trailer. It matches and I am buying it, can not be too careful these days! Its a 1994 23.5 water ballast, has an ugly amateur repair on the top deck, but the rest looks very good. Should be an easy fix. Thank you fellow Hunter owners!! I have owned many Hunters and I love them, here are some of them, 1982 54', 2003 306, 1990 33.5, 1985 28.5 , 1992 280, 1987 23.5, looking forward to getting it in the water.
