Universal M35B lift pump

I have a Catalina 350, I've been a partner on the boat for 2 years and in those 2 years the lift pump has been disconnected. The boat runs great but it should be connected. When I reconnected the hot wire, the pump started running. It will run 24\7 even with no key in the ignition. So someone in the past disconnected it for that reason. I am trying to get our mechanic to fix it but he is very busy and it may be a couple of weeks. I also noticed upon installing a new blower switch today that the purple wire to the oil dummy light has been taken off and taped. Again not sure why but could this be part of the problem with the lift pump? Any ideas?

There is a wiring diagram for your boat in your manual. If you don't have a manual, you could most likely obtain one online. Each Catalina onbe design has an association, many of them with very active websites and archives. I'm sure the C350s do. If not, there's always Google.

Since the wiring "should" have been color coded, many "generic" Catalina wiring diagrams will show what you're looking for, try the one associated with this article:

Lift pump: early designs had it running all the time with the key switch. Later designs unnecessarily complicated it (see: http://c34.org/bbs/index.php/topic,5078.msg41829.html#msg41829)

One issue could be related to the other. Or not. Really impossible to tell from here, 'cuz they shouldn't have shared any wiring 'cept the main power to the cockpit panel. You're on your boat, we're not :) --- happy hunting.

There is a schematic on Toad Marine diesel and Catalina Direct. Both are probably wrong for your vintage M35. Do what @Stu Jackson recommends to get a “good” diagram. The correct one kills power to the lift pump if the oil pressure light is on (except when glowplugs are energized). Be sure and get heatshrink terminals and quality ratcheting crimpers.

Given that two things are seriously wrong (oil pressure alarm and fuel pump). I’d consider a rewire from engine to panel. I did this over the winter and wire and terminals were under $100. I used 6-position weatherpak terminals on the wet end and two BlueSea terminal strips in the engine compartment. And a two position weatherpak for the blower.
