And I like it Les. One day. This trip has been an education on the subject.

We had a pickle ball court in the back before the big landscape project. It was fun with the kids. Lots slower than tennis but good exercise

I just saw this interesting article on a local site. I wasn't sure I wanted to post this in the national beer day thread or this trivia one. The date has come and gone, but the drinking continues. Does anyone know why April 7 is national beer day?

"April 7 is the day the Cullen-Harrison Act was enacted after President Franklin D. Roosevelt signed it into law on March 22, 1933. The Act came at the end of Prohibition and allowed the sale of beer and wine with an ABV of 3.2% or lower. It's viewed as an important domino in the chain of events that led to the repeal of 18th Amendment and the prohibition of alcohol in the United States. "

Sweet Potato Beer:)

Trivia: In 1987, 3 of us, decided to do a Brew Pub in Mississippi. A Brewmaster from Dixie Brewers [New Orleans Favorite], an money guy, and ME! [plant designer]. We formulated a standard one and a #1 National Award Winning , White Chocolate Beer! After a few months of planning, we decide to get a License to Brew.
OMG Mississippi had a Law since 1928 to prevent Beer Brewing.:yikes::confused::yikes::confused:
We objected officially to the Legislature. No Luck.
Time Passes...
Casinos Move in to the MS Coast. Magically a Casino installs a Brew Pub.:cuss:

Oh well, I would rather be sailing....
Jim...

PS: Lazy Magnolia is Mississippi’s oldest packaging brewery 2002.

And the world misses out on “White Chocolate Beer”. I’d try a glass.
Oh well.
My folks brewed a beer in the basement when we lived in Pittsburg. They called it “Stoltz Road Beer”. There were many neighbors who volunteered to help with the bottling. The favored job was sucker. They had the beer in crock tubs. You had to siphon the beer out of the tubs into the bottles. The sucker would suck on a hose then slip it into a bottle to fill. Sometimes the sucking was more drinking. All the adults appeared to enjoy the experience. Not sure what the ABV% was. But it was surely well north of 3.2%.

White Chocolate Beer
We batch tested that beer [20 gallons, carefully crafted] and it was the favorite, again at many parties. My brother [the old Navy officer], opened my office refrigerator, at a party, saw a 6 pack of clear bottle beer that had the painted factory label...

"Snake Bite Beer"

He had just helped himself, just as the Brewmaster and I walked in and saw the "thief"

He had just downed about half and said...
"That is unusual tasting, but it is very good!"

Brewmaster screamed "no!", I said "whoa!" that is our test beer.
In typical Naval Officer way , my Brother shrugged and said...

"I just tested it for you:ass:" while finishing the rare test bottle.:kick:

My first try, I forgot to add a small drop of "Antifoamer" when bottled [recycled Quart bottles].
20 exploded during the month off from school. Don't ever do that...:puke:

The remaining 20 were carefully cooled and we all waited for the GREAT taste...

First bottle opened and it spewed a stream of foam about 4 inch tall, for what seemed like 10 minutes.
About 2 tablespoon of liquid were left.:(

We aptly named it...
Volcano Beer:laugh:

Past Brew maker...
Jim...

PS: When home brewing, ain't no such thing as Stinkin...4.2% alcohol beer. We called ours Malt Wine! Less filling for sure.:pimp:

A little more beer trivia.
Trappist beer is a special designation, like Champaign. A beer can only be called a trappist beer if the trappist monks are in control of the money. Any brewmaster can brew it, but the monks have to be financially in control of the brewery if it is to call itself a trappist beer.
One of the best books on brewing is the book "Brew Like a Monk"

I like that it gives you history and philosophy and not just a collection of recipes.

20 exploded during the month off from school. Don't ever do that...:puke:
The Belgium style beers, like the trappist beers, often are put in special bottles imported from Belgium because they can handle more pressure from the CO2 produced by the yeast.
