Throttle cable 30' Hunter

We have a 1990 30' Hunter is it possible to lubricate the throttle cable, we can barely move it. Or should we replace it?

Perhaps if you posted this in the "ask all sailors" or Hunter forum you'll get some responses. I believe it's possible to lubricate the cable with light oil, depending on the routing/fall of the cable.
