Our boat is currently on the hard as the bottom is drying out for the bottom paint. So, we're thinking of repacking the stuffing box while its out. Any thoughts? I was talking to someone and they mentioned their is a new product that you can use that is really long lasting. Anyone know about it?
We're getting excited about finally getting to sail the boat. We are hoping the weekend of the 14th of August.
Of course, there is all the cleaning too....
Cheers

Look for one of the Gore Tex packing materials. It's basically a Teflon material. Because of its high lubricity you can get by with almost no drip at all and it still stays cool.

I re packed a few years ago and it's not hard. Search the site and you will see many posts on doing it.
This year I eliminated packing and went with PSS shaft seal in a quest towards having a dry bilge.

I bought the GTU from Catalina Direct and couldn't be happier, No drips and runs cool for $11 bucks. Why use anything else???
